Another idea concerning the forums...
Since the site will likely be becoming more mod-oriented, among other things, I was wondering how many would approve of merging this forum and the mods.firstones.com forums together. I think I can write a simple program that will merge the member databases together easily enough, so everyone will retain their post counts et all. I can probably also get all the threads transferred into one set without too many problems. If not, I can always just archive everything and set up a new forum with the altered members database
Do you all think it would be worth it? We had interesting, stimulating results on the temporary forums while they were up with the merging on the two communities. Have it out here, anyways.... discuss and let me know what you all think.

Also may I suggest you try to convince people from the gaming union to come here as well, maybe post news about all the B5 mods out there, and put links to them on the main site. You should also try contacting the Star Trek Armada B5 modders to establish a site here.

There are some problems, however.
If there's the same name on both boards, you normally do NOT know whether these are two different people...
How will you handle people with different names on both boards?
How do you work out different member statuses, post counts etc.?
It's not as easy as it sounds.

Yeah go for it if the mob agrees. One thing though: how deeply will they be merged? As in overwriting forums, or just putting all the forums into one index, so to speak.

Everything will be in one index accessible from here.
I wonder... I am going to look into how feasible it is to run the forums seperately except that they will share the single database. That ought to be simple actually... and I oughta be able to write a UBB hack allowing us to have a single index for each site, along with maintaining the seperate ones as well. If you didn't follow that, don't worry... I got it straight in my head.
Will be an interesting project anyways...
So... We're not using the Zocolo now?

There are only a small handfull of users with the same name of different forums but being different people. For these, the program sets them aside and makes a list of addy's I have to e-mail to talk to the owners of the nicks. One gets to keep it, the other doesn't. And actually, the only example I can think of where this is the case is Lorien. Someone on mods uses the nick Lorien before our Lorien ever registered there...
Shouldn't be much complication.. will give all the new scripts a test run first anyways. A week at least before I am ready to roll...

DG: I understand what you meant in that earlier post. I think that is the best way to do it. Give users the option to choose what index they want. Firstones, Mods or all. I'm not sure if it would be possible though.
As for multiple users: If both are active, give the earlier register first right of refusal.
