Spoiler: I'm kind of annoyed with where they're going with Baltar. He's getting simple and boring again, and while it looked like they were going to develop him beyond the one note they started with, I hope this isn't an indication that they're giving up on that.

Also, I was kind of surprised that Real Six ended up looking cute and nerdy.

Also also, I am rather bothered that it does, in fact, appear that Helo at least was returned to duty without the issue being addressed further.

Also also also, they better get back to the mythology and mysticism that ended season one. Laura apparently surviving is messing with a lot of that.

omgBoomer'sacylon? ohcrap

Boomers a Cylon?!? OMGWTFBBQ!!!!1!!!!

Spoiler: Well don't take for granted that the "cylon" cure is permanent, she could relapse.

I'd like them to pursue the aspect of her having cylon blood in her now, what will that do to her purity as a human, is she programmable now? Will she require regular doses of prenatal blood to arest her cancer? Will the cylons learn how to manipulate the cancer to infest the rest of humanity in the fleet? etc...

I like the direction so far myself... :)
• ArethusaArethusa Universal Cathode
I agree, that was interesting. I'm just particularly interested in how this affects the mythology of the world, which has really taken a backseat with recent events.

Give them time. Pegasus eps were awesome, and I wouldn't trade them for any other episode to date.

Jack-- OMGWTFBBQ sounds pretty tasty. Share.

Spoiler: Personally, I thought THIS week's episode was kinda weak. I feel like a cheap trick was done to keep a Rosilyn around, and found Adama's character to both "crisis situations" to be a regression down the path of Cain. I do think we'll see the political dynamic play out allot more now, though, as a consequence of the President's open contempt for Baltar being out of the bag. Did like Roselyn's flashbacks though. Fleshed out the character well, and the parallels between her dreams and what was going on in realtime were good dramatic tools. Again, I don't see an issue at all with Helo and Co not being punished for an accident. If anyone should have been shot, it was Lee for pulling a gun on Tigh in last year's Finale. If they let that go, this was a no brainer.

I have to agree, unfortunately. While there were things I liked, definitely, this episode did feel uncharacteristically weak. I can generally pick apart flaws in just about every episode, but that rarely means the episode itself is bad (see Resurrection Ship, Part 2). This one, however...

Also, Roslin's political flashbacks gave that entire half of the episode a very West Wing narrative style. While it was interesting, like the West Wing, it felt a little contrived. Still, there was a lot there I liked. Notsomuch for the cylon sympathizer stuff. Though that scene with Baltar and Six in the Galactica's hallway was very well executed, if a bit over the top.

Heh heh, it was a phrase I saw in a comment during a 419 case concerning the PPP-Powerbook. Was something the individual wanted to leave as feedback on Ebay... :D

I just kind of adopted it, because it hits my funny bone still...

;)

Obviously, it is a spoof on acronyms used on the net... :D

Spoiler: I agree, this episode was more a means to getting back to the main story. It's hard to top the previous episodes.

I didn't buy her flashbacks regarding Gaius though. She's lying on her dying bed and she has thoughts about Gaius Baltar? Gimme a break.

I also agree with you on her miraculous cure... when your body is literally being destroyed by cancer, I doubt a mere blood transfusion can make up for all the damage. I'm not a medical doctor, but life is a bit more complicated than that. I think they dropped the ball there and went with the "logic of plot" as JMS likes to say.

Oh, and what was that about the viper ammunition? I didn't quite get that. :D

Overall the episode felt indeed a bit muted and much less intense.

They just started showing BSG here in Finland yesterday... well, technically the day before yesterday. ;)

They spliced the pilot movie into four episodes. I mean, come on. /Jimmy

Anyhoo, was a darn impressive start and I'm really looking forward to seeing more.

Just had to spend $42.60 on the pilot series and the first season DVD's. Gotta 'love Play.com's reductions. :)
• ArethusaArethusa Universal Cathode
The pilot movie was a miniseries. They cut it into a single movie for the dvd release.
• Data CrystalData Crystal Pencil Artist
I understood that, but I also got the impression that the miniseries was originally designed to be shown as two, hour-and-a-half -episodes, not four fourty five -min eps.

Could be wrong, though.

Yes that is correct mostly. When the mini series aired on SciFi it was a two parter at two hours each. In the DVD its a single 3 hour movie.

After the last two episodes (as well as Final Cut), I think it's become clear that a 20 episode season was about as good an idea as Operation Market Garden. End the war by Christmas, indeed.
• JackNJackN Lightwave Alien
Spoiler: I have a feeling the nuke is going to be used to take out the Pegasus eventually... There is still a LOTof resentment about how Cain dealt with civi's and even though she's dead, Peg's a target for revenge.

Just my thoughts anyway...

:)
• ArethusaArethusa Universal Cathode
Seems likely and convenient. They seem to have abandoned, at least for the moment, their previous commitment to writing and dealing with consequences, and that would be one damn convenient way to tie that plot thread up.
• JackNJackN Lightwave Alien
Spoiler: I also was half expecting a power play to commence. Roslin had technically given up the presidency. I see the doctor is now intent on getting into politics. My guess is we'll see a showdown on this soon enough.

:)

This has been discussed by the producers. They also felt a shorter season like the first is actually ideal. 20 eps per season leaves very little time to do a lot of things right but the networks want more of their cash cow.

Spoiler: Its hard to wind down after the Pegasus episodes left the show on a pretty darn high point. Epiphanies wasn't too bad at all IMO but it suffered the same problem as Flight of the Pheonix. Just too much of a time lapse compressed into one episode. Whether its building a blackbird or curing cancer it should have been better spread out. Heck after Adama was shot he was out of commision for a solid 5 episodes. They should have done the same with Roslin as she recovered. Instead she went from the brink of death to back in a wheelchair and up and about by the end of an episode.

I thought last nights Black Market was pretty good. They should have called it The Apollo Show though. I think he was in every single scene. I thought it was a pretty solid episode overall. It was about time to get to see the fleet from outside the perspective of the military and the cylon chase. From the civilian point of view its a very shitty position to be in and I found it to be well done. I'd like to see more episodes dealing with the internal fleet situation outside of Galactica.

Spoiler: I don't mind episodes dealing with the conflict from other points of view. I just want them to be well written. Flight of the Phoenix wasn't nearly as bad as the last two have been about shoving far too much into too short a time, and the narrative style and writing have been utter trash. The prostitute's speech at the end was particularly nauseating, but everything leading up to it was still pretty terrible. What the hell is the CAG doing investigative work, anyway, let alone all by himself?
• WORFWORF The Burninator
Spoiler: Actually I liked the episode, I could identify quite a lot with Apollo. And before anyone asks, no I haven't been seeing a prostitute. He is just searching for a reason to stay alive after he wanted to die.

Spoiler: The same thing Starbuck was doing as a sniper in Bastille Day. You only have a main set of characters who the show has to revolve around. If you start bringing in specialized people for every role you'll have new and unknown guest stars every episode. Adm. Adama needs someone trustworthy to send into Pegasus to investigate and there is simply no one else that fits the bill other than his son. Who's he going to send? Tigh, the Chief, Baltar, Gaeta? The only other realistic candidate is Starbuck and she's already overextended on her superwoman episodes. Lee is the only logical choice. He doesn't need a team to do some investigating. Its better to keep a low profile. Besides, he's trying to keep his uhm, "relationship" with the prostitute undercover.
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
If this show, and particularly the Black Market episode, taught me anything is Spoiler: not to get too attached to any new characters. If you want to survive as an actor on this show you have to be a Cylon.

While I agree that the show has taken the turn for your standard soap opera fare, it's quite understandable that you can't have dogfights in every episode. They just don't have that much money to burn on SFX.

Now that we got this episode out of the way, let's get back to the main plot, shall we?
• ArethusaArethusa Universal Cathode
Spoiler: It's obviously not about dogfights or space battles. That was shitty writing and bad driecting, and there is no getting around it. I've lost faith in this show.

Well, the good news is, the producer thought it turned out pretty crappy, too, and it isn't just a response to public opinion. I'm hoping things turn around with "Scar," but the episode I'm really looking forward to is "Downloaded."

I also have a good feeling because the DVD commentaries for the first couple episodes of season 1 were recorded when they were making the last couple of episodes, and Moore and Eick mentioned that they hadn't had as much set-up and story seeds as the did during the early days of the show, and would have to see to that.

It was indeed a major improvement over the last two. Not incredible and not truly a return to form, but good. My faith remains shaken, however. 13 and 14 are going to leave scars.

Spoiler:
A good thing Cylons don't hold a grudge against their victors. ;) This reminds me of that hilarious scene in Schwarzenegger's "The 6th Day" where he kills one of the clones for the third or so time in the interval of 24 hours: "Now stay dead!" I wonder what else the Cylons are cloning, if they clone their spies and raiders? I wonder what their server room looks like. :D
