I had an idea the other day, but I forgot it for a while so it's here now;
I consider myself an active FirstOne, but this is still a common problem every now and then; Whenever there's some huge, heated debate with deleted topics and bans going on & around, I'm usually too late to even grasp what's going on before the whole scene disappears. Now, Biggles, I'm sure, would suggest something like "post more often", but with this kind of internet billing I'm having here for the next few months, that's a bit too expensive for me.
So, here's my idea; How about collecting all those "offensive" topics and stuff that has gotten people banned to an alternate FO forum, named like Death Row or something aprropriate for example, so that we spoo-speeders too can catch up on all the juicy gossip? I know this would bring up some problems, but those can be cut short with rules. Like all topics closed and linking to banned topics without a proper reason as grounds for part-time banning.

The whole reason for deleting bad posts like that is to remove their presence from our board. I know you suggest banning people who link to them but that kind of thing gets messy fast. I'm not entirely against the idea but I'm not entirely for it either...

Funny, I looked through the main page but it didn't catch my eye. Well, can't say that that would be any news.
bobo: The exact term used was "we spoo-speeders--", which referred to people such as myself, who like to hang around the boards to have a few laughs or an actual good conversation every now and then, but who also like to sleep once in a while.
It usually pays to make sure you understand what you're criticizing before you actually do it. Speeding and feeding were two different things at least the last time I checked, unless we're talking about the colour of the pill... [img]http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/rolleyes.gif[/img]
Banned for life +50 years? That's a bit rude, wouldn't you say... It's not like I killed anyone, is it?
Back to the actual topic: This was only a suggestion, people, I know our boards are more of a dictatorship than a democracy but unless those goons that did a number on my kneecap three minutes ago were sent by the admins, I don't see the harm in suggesting things.
We're still getting newbies, right? So what would be the harm in letting them see just what we do NOT tolerate on our boards just for the heck of it and to prevent any similiar "shite" & unwanted material that we've had in the past popping up in the future.
And I DID say that this deleted topics forum would not be problem-free, of course not, whenever there's still people around, everything can be twisted into anything if the option is available. I was just pointing out that we have a [i]quite[/i] sophisticated board here (believe it or not [img]http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/smile.gif[/img]) when compared to the other alternatives on the 'net, one which I thought could handle this sort of a "curiosity" without blowing itself up in the process. To err is human, I suppose.
I know this kind of a thing would be troublesome from an admin's point of view, granted, but -once again- what's the harm in suggesting things if you don't do it in an offensive manner.
I just wanted to see what kind of a reaction this would stir up in the regular crowd;
I know I'd be all for this idea but I wouldn't like to be an admin if people decided to start throwing shit at the fan, so I can understand how you feel 'bout the idea Biggs.
--Then again, what the hell, it seems that the idea was shot and gutted mid-air anyways, so I guess I got what I wanted.

Sam pretty much hit it on the head. The reason for deleting them is to kill off the topic as fast as possible. You did say that banning people who try to keep it going could be done but that would cause more problems than the topic itself.
