RAWHIDE!!!
Because the character is homosexual?
Does that mean the show "Wil & Grace" is also sick?
What about every other show that portrays gay characters? Are they all trying to brainwash people?
The article also states that the comic will be written in a "campy" humorous style. I'd see that as more of a parody than anything else.
*Just a warning: This is one of those topics that can easily get out of hand, so keep the discussion civil, and respect other people's viewpoints. I don't want to have to close this thread*

But that was back in the days of stricker TV and reading censorship.
I for one do not believe that the gay lifestyle should be drilled into our kids as an ok lifestyle! My opinion!
To change a character into a something else is wrong! Make a new one, all hell would break loose if it would have been Spiderman or Batman and no I do not like those types of shows!

It has already been done. Ever see "The Ambiguously Gay Duo" or better yet, the 1960's Batman TV series?

If someone is so ambivilent about their own sexuality they can have it changed by a comic book, well, I'd remain firmly seated when near them, if you catch my drift.

OK, just laying a few ground rules here, because this is already a hot topic.
Keep it clean, keep an open mind, try not to take offence, and try not to flamb.
proceed.

How stupid is this in the days when Rawhide was a paperback series censorship was a lots stiffer than today, I mean come on.
And comic books are aimed, in my opinion, at children and teenagers mostly. In the 60's version of Batman and Robin I never once saw them try to get the point across that it was a gay relationship! Not ever man working with man partnership is a gay relationship.
I don't think anykind of sex needs to be put in comic books.

2) No one wants to "push" any sexual orentation cant spell the word on you. Those who do need to be beaten with a rubber chicken.
Yet I look forward to they day when two guys can walk down the street holding hands and no one will give them a nasty look. Is that "pushing" something onto someone?
Comic books evolve with the times.
In the good 'ol days of superman, beating the evil villians was all that was needed to entertain the casual reader.
Problem is, times have changed. The old one dimensional characters don't cut it anymore. People want complicated characters who have real, complex lives. i.e. Batman, The X-Men, Spiderman. The characters in these comics all have complex, often very imperfect lives and a number of flaws. Where I'm actually going with this, I have no clue. I spent too much time doing other things, and have since forgotten my message.
But on thinking it, that reason might be a bit lame sounding, but I think it works as well as any other. The only issue I might have with this comic is that it's apparently built just to feature a gay character rather than a super hero of some sort who just happens to be homosexual. It seems like it's a bit of a forced attempt to introduce such a character into mainstream comics.
I also think that some people's paranoia about it comes from the simple, underlying instincts for survivial of the species. Let's admit it - homosexuality ensures the end of the human race if everyone did it. Also, men (fathers) don't like the idea of their genetics not being passed to the next generation because their child is gay.
Now, in terms of the comic book, yes, I think it's a bit "forced", and as such, will probably not get much market circulation.
I can drag this off topic more, but I wont!
I dumped enough lighter fluid on this topic.

Croxis, put down the damn cross? Making the Rawhide kid gay is a stupid idea, its like saying "just because you too are shy with girls must mean your gay!" god, if they wanted to make a gay character they should have just made a gay character, not taken one that existed and go, well since he's not good with women, he's gay! Damn most straight guys are not necissarily "good" with women, and yet still have this complete facisnation with boobies
*sigh*
Man were not all out to get you jeeze, frankly as long as your not hitting on them, most straight guys dont mind gay guys, hell they are great, LESS COMPETITON! YES!.. now its Lesbians that annoy me to no end, especialy attractive lesbians.. now THEY are a threat and must all be reprogramed!
It seems to me they are jumping on the bandwagon and saying, "Hey look, we have a gay title character". If they really wanted to go about this and use an existing character, they should develop his realization that he is gay and explore the feelings and conflicts that arise. To me that would much more interesting than some campy, Robert Smegal knockoff.

No. I will never, ever, 'respect' a viewpoint that being gay is wrong. I have quite a lot of gay friends and I've been to the gay village (here in Manchester) several times with my wife and have had a great time.
I will never "respect" viewpoints that are clearly and without doubt wrong.

Respecting someone's viewpoint and agreeing with it are two different things.
If you don't agree, ignore the comment and let it go. Either way, don't turn the thread into a flamewar; that's the main thing.
Frankly, I'm not going to post in this thread anymore, as they say - if you don't like whats being said, ignore it!

Aye, if they do a gay hero dude in a comic they should just make a new character or do what Freejack says.
Speaking of crosses there is a work of art thing in front of our Library that looks like a vampite hamberger. It looks like a hamberger on a pedestal with a stake going though it.
I normaly don't react like that, even to the topic in general. But there are like three things said is spacific ways that make be go kablitz. Sorry, my bad :-(
as for Boring. uh huh sure.. god frozed cow pies.. those things are evil when thrown. I went to high school at Canby High, so that might tell you something.
vampire burger? LOL probably not the immagery they were going for huh? its remining me of these books I read as a child, the Bunnicula series? vampire rabbit and what were implied to be his vegitable minions?
You know coming from a rural community I find it hard to be a vegan, I KNOW cows are evil especially after they try stomping you into the turf
I was thinking Bunnicula too when I typed that, except I couldn't remember the name of the series. I sould re-read them, seeing how I am going into education. God I can't wait to teach, its all the other crap that I have to deal with as a teacher that I don't want to deal with.
Thanks for trying to get me to calm down. I was fine by the time I typed loving, but thanks anyways.
Definatly on the cows.. Im pretty contemptious of most farm animals, been around them all, and they have all tried to do me it at some point.. pigs arent so mean, unless its feeding time, they have pigglets, or in general you have annoyed them.. wait.. hell fry em up.
Snowbording does suck, plus alot of the snowbording crowd has issues.
Heh, I still own 3 of the four books in the bunnicula series I might have the fourth one somewhere too, god I loved that series.. chester was my hero growing up
education. ungh.. elementry education? man do you have a masochistic streak or what?
