[OT] Flood in the eastern and the south of europe

Maybe you've heard from the floods in the eastern and the south of europe. Today I came back from my vacation to my hometown Dresden (germany) where this flood is the highest the town has ever seen in his 500 year old history (the Elbe river is 8 metres above the normal level of around 2 metres).

If you're interested in reading some impressions of the flood then take a look at this thread in the Buda5 Forum.

PS: Don't get the feeling that I want to make publicity with it, please! With this comment I only want to give the fellows who doesn't heard from that in germany so called "Jahrhunderflut" a short impression of this catastrophe.

All the images we've seen on TV here looked pretty horrible.

I've been following those floods from tv too and I'm just glad we don't have that bad floods here, or any other bad natural disasters. Good luck to you people over there.

I've just been stuck tight in the military for two weeks thanks to our lil' program where we help the city police and other authorities if needed such... informational blackout, that is, not much time (none) to tune in on the news.

I heard about that yesterday, a real bummer, feels almost unbelievable that it's in Europe. It's not like this is Bangladesh or something... anyways, it's bad enough if you have to leave your home, but an especially shitty deal when everything you have is drenched in water.

Hang in there, not much else you can do.

  • You're having a flood and we're having a draught. Don'cha just love the weather sometimes?

A quick question, is the AMD chip plant in any danger?
  • Thank you PJH for the wishes!

@psyco: Oh you have solicitudes about the supply with new processors . But be untroubled, the Fab30 lies in higher regions next to the airport (so only an airplane can endanger the factory ). Infineon lies high enough, too.

@Biggles: Mess, I thought nobody would recognize this short OT .

@Data Crystal: That's the disadvantage when being on an operation that you don't get press information, I know this. Do you have your statutory military service or are you a lifer?

PS: If you're interested - I just wrote down a little bit more impressions of the local situation.
