Except that it [i]was[/i] generating advertising revenue. Read the article; Witchblade was one of their highest-rated shows!

yeah.. ratings are good....

but

to put it in fairly extreme terms...

Exec A looks at the demographics and breakdowns of programme A....

15/male/WASP makes up the majority of those high ratings

he's selling Tenalady....

pubescent boys dont buy incontience pads... unless they are really, really ......sick.

Exec A doesnt give a rats posterior about high ratings in the wrong demographic and doesnt buy advertsiing in that programmes slot...

good series gets canned...

I guarantee you Witchblade did well in the big demographic. One of the criteria mentioned by the exec was that it be (as paraphraphrased in the article) "a good match with cable and advertisers." The exec goes on to say that it [i]was[/i] a good match. No way were advertising dollars a question.
