Admirals' shoulder strap

Andy La RubinAndy La Rubin Earthforce Officer
As anyone knows, there were no Admirals on screen in all B5 series. But we also know, that there were Admirals in B5 universe (they were mentioned more than once, and John Copeland specificly states the difference between Generals and Admirals at one occasion). And we also know, that Admirals were set to appear on screen in ITF. For example, Admiral Hudgins: ;)

So, the question is: can anyone decipher from this photo (or from any other available source) what this shouldes strap looks like?

More questions about Generals: can anyone count number of stars and bars on their shoulder straps as well? Because there are controversial observations on this matter. Specifically:

General Netter (Survivors) - 5 stars in circle
General Miller (Eyes) - 5 stars in circle
General Hauge (PoD, AAITN) - 5 stars in circle
General Franklin (GROPOS) - ?
Lt. General O'Reilly (PONR) - ?
General Smits (PONR) - ?
General Lefcourt (ITB) - ?
General Fontaine (ITB) - ?
General Lefcourt (Endgame) - ?
General Ivanova (Sleeping) - ?

And if someone knows any other generals....

    What we've got so far:

    General Franklin - 2 stars (2 bars)
    General Fontaine - 3 stars (1 bar)
General Lefcourt (ITB) - 1 star (1 bar)

And two more generals are discovered:

General Thompson (Patterns of the Soul) - ?
General Yuri Mikhailovich Denisov (A Call To Arms) - ?

Sounds very strange to have both admirals and generals in the same service.

its a different type of military DUH!

John Copeland said: "Note on Admirals and Generals - they are of equal standing, however Admirals are fleet commanders. Generals tend to be involved still on the tactical level. "

The way it works here in Sweden is that Admirals are Generals in the Navy. Generals only exist in the airforce or ground forces.

As it is in most, if not all military forces. The thing is, even given the fact that Earth Force is a different kind of military, we've seen generals as ship and fleet commanders and we've seen generals as troop commanders. Where are admirals supposed to belong? If they're on the same level as generals rank-wise, they seem redundant.

We haven't seen generals as fleet commanders, actually. The only exception was Gen. Lefcourt (Endgame) in command of EF destoyer group near Mars, but it was deliberate choice since he was familiar with Sheridan's tactics.
  • CurZCurZ Resident Hippy
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a captain (captain Hall) in command of the fleet at Proxima 3? Another captain in charge of the fleet attacking B5 in Severed Dreams?

It's been a while since I last watched through the eps so my memory might be betraying me.

Also, probably General Denisov in ACtA ;)

Captain - yes, but not General...

If a Captain is qualified to command a fleet, why not a General? ;)
  • Sergei SSergei S Earthforce Officer
It's not the question of whether Generals are qualified to command a fleet or not.
It's the question of whether we saw one commanding a fleet in the series or not. ;)

You can't handle the truth!

Anyway, I was talking about the redundancy of the admiral rank.
  • MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Shouldnt the developers of ITF know anything about this? Randy, Jack, anything?

Also, the leader of the "Advanced Destroyer Group" was a Captain, iirc.

By the way, isn't it funny that no ship names are given for the Adv. Omegas, just a fleet title?
  • BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
They probably had names that could only be pronounced by shadows.

Must have confusing to the commander...

"This is the EAS Whatchamacallit to the EAS Name Unknown. Move off the port side of the EAS _____."
  • MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
    LOL!
  • CurZCurZ Resident Hippy
They probably had a shadow on the bridge of every ship to pronounce the names when the captains needed them to.

    "This is the EAS.."

    *rings a small bell*

    *shadow creature says the name*

    "..right, get ready to attack!"

    ROTFL! :shadow1:

Speaking of the bridge, just imagine what it would look like!

It really would have been cool to see the guy's face with a bridge in the background.

The guys from "The Babylon 5 Tech Manual" call them the "Omega-X". It's cool name that's always been used when describing the advanced destroyers.

    He meant individual ship names.

    Individual names?

I'm positive I have a text file with all the names of the ships in the Omega-X battlegroup upstairs. Again, I think this was from the B5 Tech Manual.

Of note, the most popular Omega-X name seems to be "Archonon" when it comes to CGI artists rendering pics of the ships themselves.

Aha, here it is. (Although "Archonon" isn't on the list.)

    Regards,
    Morden

Did they cite the source for the O-X names?
  • BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
My memory is hazy, but I thought there were only 6 of them.
