"Babylon 5 was the last of the Babylon stations. There would never be another. It changed the future .. and it changed us. It taught us that we have to create the future .. or others will do it for us. It showed us that we have care for one another, because if we don't, who will? And that true strength sometimes comes from the most unlikely places. Mostly, though, I think it gave us hope .. that there can always be new beginnings .. even for people like us."

Any chance of someone who has already downloaded it mirroring it? I'm getting about 2K a sec or less.

Thanks, Mundane!

Can you play it without trouples? I'm saking because the best I've had is the rign course in training or the very first necounter of instant action before tha game crashes and throw me back to desk top.

Hello there

I was just wondering if any of you could stick the demo up but not as an ftp download.

I'm behind a college firewall here so I can't use ftp access ( ) so if it was just stuck up - so to speak - I could download the thing pretty quickly with my connection.

I just figured I'd ask, if not...nevermind.

Thanks
• Downloading it now..thank's mundane... .

I'll check to see how it runs on my system(gf3 and dual 1000 p3)and i'll report back.
• Well...i've been playing it for the last hour or so,and there's one word that comes to mind....

AWSOME!!!!!!!..........

The controls are quite complex, especially when it comes to managing weapons, navigation and any repairs that may be needed, but once you get used to it,it is quite intuitive especially considering the default button mapping is very well done(using a microsoft sidewinder FF) with the hat switch that controls the main subgroups(nav, weapons, repairs).

The intro alone is worth the download(simply stunning work there)and just wait until you get a load of the graphics(especially at high resolution and all options maxed out), nebula, weapons, and ships so detailed with what seems like several thousand polys even on small fighters and corvettes, you can see your oponents using their(moving)thrusters to avoid your shots with what seems rotating secondary turrets getting a lock on you at the same time, even at medium range.

The AI seems to behave quite realisticaly with enemy ships working together and trying to catch you in a cross fire and the physics are pure newtonian but with the different ships having their normal tradeoffs(fighters, freighters, corvettes).

The recomended system specs are fairly steep(p3 or athlon 800mhz)with a full DX8 compatible card, but the sheer eye candy will amaze you.

Thanks a bunch Mundane.

because of a error in windows (SURPRISE!!)
the ftp is down, and I believe that the demo is available from more places now
• The MercifulThe Merciful Earthforce Officer
Little sytems comparing, Mundane. I've:

1GHz AMD Thunderburd
Abit KT7-raid motheboard (VIA chipset)
Sounblaster Live 1024
Voodoo5
Windows 98 (1st edition)
DirectX 8.0a

I haven't had considerable trouples with the multiplayer beta - nothing like with the demo. I take you still have trouble playing the demo.

installed Windows 2000 again...working now..
although a little slow..only got a Geforce SDR and P3-600
• The part i really like is when you fire your weapons(especially lasers)and when they strike your targets hull it glows red hot for a few seconds and a second strike at the same spot will cause much more damage.

Oh man i'm having a blast with the demo, can't wait for the full game... .

Ive got a P2-333
Win98SE
128RAM
TNT w/12MB and latest ref drivers
SBLive
5X DVD drive

well within the minimum specs...so dunno whats causing it

What an Awesome game to play while we wait for ITF (with clenched fists!!) apart from a few hours here and there with Tribes2 now its patched up so it plays like a game not the beta version the came on the cd that is!
(plz no flames cause I bought a Sierra game)
After playing for about an hour the physics engine became really nice to fly around so beware the first 5 minutes your zooming around in what seems like a starfury with one engine (this baby is B5 in different clothes)
Does anyone thinks the hud is similar to the fury (ok not quite but if you projected some graphics onto your face it would be close furys had really bright monitors don't you think lol!)
The graphics engine rocks bigtime! nicer explosions than FS2 and the laser effects are the best I've seen.
The only gripe is the mp3 music stuttering on hardware and software settings

If you have a GF3 get it now

1333 Tbird
Prophet3
GameTheatre XP
512 meg
Thrustmaster game pad (it was made for this game the control method is awesome)

and the moral of this is if ITF ever gets released say goodbye to the real world for a while!!!!

!!!!
The mining laser looks COOOL....
Interesting to see how Buda 2 will look on IW2 engine if someone make it...
• VoodooVVoodooV Earthforce Officer
sigh, going to be at least 6 months before I upgrade my 'puter

waiting for the ultra version of the GF3
• Don't worry,in six months time,i'm sure that you'll be able to get something insanely powerful for not too much money.

The advances in hardware are happening much faster than ever before and is it looks like it won't slow down anytime soon... .

Now all that needed is software that can take advantage of it.... .

This actually brings up a good question for the team...Knowing that the average game can take up to 3 years to do and that pc's can easily get 2~3 times more powerful in that time frame(especially video cards),how does the team go about in terms of defining what they want to acheive with their project???.

I know that on one end you want to see your game run on as many systems as possible but on the other hand, there's still that wow factor to satisfy too, regardless if it's physics,AI,gameplay or just plain eye candy,no???.
• VoodooVVoodooV Earthforce Officer
Oh im not worried that I won't get a powerful rig in 6 months time

just a little bummed that my 333 and TNT card are finally running out of steam.

I love Nvidia cards..they last forever!

The other thing im concerned about is the sharp increase of minimum system specs for games these days. And while Ill admit that games these days are extremely sophisticated and need good hardware to make them run good. I guess im just nostalgic for the good ole days when even the hottest of games only needed a 133 or 166 to run. and having a 3d graphics card was a luxury..not a requirement. People who've been in the gaming scene longer than I have will even scoff at that

So don't quote me moore's law...even though its not a law

I just hope our software writers are spending sufficient time at optimization even though processors are insanely fast and hard drives are ridiculously huge..(read the other day that IBM had a breakthrough that would allow them to QUADRUPLE drive space)
• While it's impressive to see the rate at which new hardware is introduced,in order to enjoy all the new games being released with reasonable speed,it's to expect that even if you buy a fairly powerful machine today,it will need to get at least a couple of upgrades(cpu and video card,if possible)within 18 months or so.

I don't think there's really any way around it,even if developers try to optimize as much as they can to make any given game run well on the widest possible user base.

As time goes on,everyone wants bigger, better graphics as well as AI,physics and gameplay so in the end, something has got to give and it's usually your hardware... .

Don't worry, Buda5 ver2 WILL be made and will be a LOT better than ver1. The Raider Campaign is nearly ready and will probably be the last campaign for Buda5 until IWAR2 is released then the work will start again.

Go here and you will see some of the things that should be in the new version (as well as online fighting as well)

I just can't seem to get a handel on the Verticle Thrust....Where are those controlls? And where can you set keybinds? Good Demo though. Based on the Demo I would Rate the Game at $39.99 meaning that when it hits that price or lower...I will buy it.
(Half-Life was the only $59.99 I ever played back in 98)
