We were hoping to ship it by Christmas 1998 and then it was going to be spring 99, and then well... We all got fired (well laid off technically)...

:S
• only 1998? but thats only......7 years.....wow quite a while then.

You know, looking at those pictures, some old memories come back, which remind me of unanswered questions. Specifically, did we ever figure out how they were going to do the sides and back of the jump points? I remember a long discussion on it, with pictures of Kier Darby's jumppoint model for lightwave and mentions of A Call to Arms. I don't remember any answer, though, aside from a deep and abiding desire to turn on the jump gate first time I played the game and fly around to see for myself.

I guess you would've seen the jumppoint like you logically imagine to see it from its flanks. Open blue cones. It would've been a bit too tricky to do the trick required to cover the sides for a game I guess and quite pointless too IMO.

6 years.

This thread reminds me, that I should find the CD where I have all the screenshots of the game and check them out again. So I can curse one more time what a *peep* *peep* *peep* morons those suits were.

Btw, guess what would be a nice game currently? BSG game! Now wouldn't it be awesome to fly those Vipers and kick some Cylon ass? :D

Hmh... I didn't remember ITF graphics were that bad. IFH and even TBP looks a lot better.

Not that graphics make the whole game, I'm sure the gameplay and story of ITF would have rocked.
• Alpha-1Alpha-1 Elite Ranger Germany
later screenshots looking a lot better

Yup, those screenshots posted here were from the early days and were one the first shots of the game. Later ones are showing much much better graphics.

i wonder if there is a chance that you can share the screenshots on your cd:)
• JackNJackN Lightwave Alien
There's also some heavy dithering in some of those... which I suspect may be due to web use or something.

Another note about the quality of the models from early days to later on was that the programmers were building the engine as we started some of the ships.

We were given some insanely small boundaries in the beginning and so by the time we had finished some of the work, we were given more room, and so would have to rework some of the older stuff.

The B5 Station was a good example of that. My initial station was ~4000 polys, 1.4 meg of texture. Stuart came back to it later (after I had moved on to Foundation) and added a lot of detail for things like the reactor, cobra bays, etc...

Phillip had done a higher res version of the Centaury Cruiser after I had done the initial one.

The list goes on...

Things were really looking good towards the end of 98, beginning of 99.

So close...

Sure, if I just can find the cd. I'll search for it when I have some time.

well, of vorlons are packrats, threw all they have on the net as they leave for the rim we might have enough to finish a game.

Or is this just massive wishful thinking?
