Winter Is Coming...

Time to revive this thread - the show finally premiers this Sunday, April 17. Even if you don't have HBO, they are doing a free preview weekend with many providers to give people a show to see the premier.

I really enjoyed the Song of Ice and Fire book series, so between the premier of the show and A Dance With Dragons (book 5 of the series) going on sale in June, this is a very exciting time to be a fan!

*grumble* I can't even load the HBO website anymore now that I have disabled Flash player because it kept crashing my browser...

I'm guessing that free preview doesn't extend to those of us outside the US. :(
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Many of my friends here in Sweden have seen it so, I guess it does?

Too much interference from the nutrient tank Biggles?

I've never read the books, but from what I've seen of the buildup to the series, I'll admit to being intrigued
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
The books are fantastic. More than fantastic really.

Got it working this time.

HBO certainly went for high production values. I wonder how much of the budget went on fake blood, though?

Husband and I are eagerly waiting. I *just* finished a Feast of Crows

I watched the first part on nightshift last night. Bearing in mind that I've not read any of the books, I really enjoyed it. If the next few episodes are as good then I think I'll definitely have to find the time to read the books.

One of the crappy things about being introduced to the books by a TV or movie adaption is that, if you buy them, you get stuck with the "NOW ON TV!" covers featuring photos of the cast, rather than the original artwork.

If the cover is of Lena Headey then I don't mind! ;)

What an excellent start to season two :)

You know nothing Jon Snow.

I hate this series. Especally what happens at the end of book 5. Nothing happy to look forward to :(

I think that's why I ultimately lost interest in it croxis, it's just too damn depressing!

Game of Thrones

This show based on what I think is a series of books has just completed its second season and it barely gets a mention here and I was wondering why?

I just finished watching the first two episodes and I don't know yet whether I like it or not.

You'd think a star studded series filled with violence to adults, sex, violence to children, more sex, violence to animals, even more sex and nudity all plunged into a high production value medieval setting matching the LotR movies would get people to talk more about it but I guess I'm all wrong. :D

Suffice it to say, I'm not hooked yet. Since it's on HBO, I'm assuming this gets aired way past bed time. ;)

It will get a third season, so someone out there must like it.

You mean like this?
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
Yes, like that, but that's hardly the reaction expected to a successful and popular show:
What an excellent start to season two :)
A bit underwhelming, I know some of us are more jaded than others, but the overall reaction stands in no relation to how much work went into the production of the series. Anyway, I'm going to keep watching, it's at least good enough to make me watch a bit more before deciding to invest more time in it.

As Imhotep said, I just finished watching season one a month ago when the DVDs came out. Now waiting for the season 2 DVDs.

Watching this show feels a bit like homework, there are too many characters to keep track of to have a chance at figuring out what is going on. I've now watched the first 5 episodes and I have still no real clue who is with whom and who is plotting against whom. There are generational internal rivalries, and family feuds and people who have no direct blood line to the throne who are of importance to the events as they unfold on screen. I will have to watch this series quite a few times if I am to have a slight chance at grasping the intricacies of the overall plot and the lives of the characters who when they are not trying to kill each other are busy making babies. :D
• WORFWORF The Burninator
It's quite simple really, everyone is plotting against everyone else.
• StingrayStingray Elite Ranger
I suppose that's when the expression of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer came to be. It's difficult to get attached to anyone character when he or she could die at any moment. The funny thing is that even in all that mess there are still rules of fair play that appear to have some importance. Life wasn't worth much in those days.
