• Holla! I loved the movie. The scenes they left out were generally the more boring ones, and were replaced with more action scenes. Damn, this movie ROCKED! It's amazing.

Bad point: No trailer for Legend of the Rangers.

I'm British, I wonder if Rangers will show in UK...
• From somoeone who read the book for the first time last week....the film is a fairly true and accurate depiction.

They only removed the fluff of the book and a little of the core story so it is good.

The film in my mind far exceeded my expectation of it. Imgages in my mind were sometimes outshined by the film.

Acting was great (especially Ian McKellan and excluding that bloody Elijah Wood).

Whether a fan or a casual movie-goer you have to see the film. I've only ever been to two films that have gotten standing ovations from my local cinema. And it's fun to see that they have both have come out within a month of eac other. Harry Potter was good, this is better.

Well I went to see it just over 11 hours now. Queued up for 2 hours to get good seats. And then about 1.5 hours into the movie, it jumps straight from Weathertop to Moria. Turns out the ****ers at the cinema spliced the movie wrong! First public showing in New Zealand of the biggest movie in NZ history, and they splice it wrong! Needless to say, an entire theatre of people were seriously pissed off. To cut a long story short, we all got movie vouchers (we were supposed to get one each, but most people just kept going back for more). A bunch of our original group decided that if this cinema couldn't get it right, the biggest complex in the country probably could since they were playing it every hour all day. So 2 hours and 20 minutes after I was originally supposed to see it I went and saw it. At least I can say that I've seen the movie more than anyone else yet, since I've seen it 1.5 times.
Anyone in New Zealand, take my advice: Do not go see movies at Broadway Newmarket. They can't get the movie I've been waiting 10 years for right.

On the plus side, the movie rocks. Although there are a lot of small details that have been changed.

I cannot understand how anyone who likes the books could not absolutely love this movie.

Oh, and for those who are wondering, no, there was no Legend of the Rangers preview.
At least not at the Satellite Beach Cinema.

• Sorry guys no Rangers preview. I've seen the movie twice (promised multiple groups of people I'd go with them...) and neither theater showed a Ranger's preview. I will say that the movie is more enjoyable the second time, but the things I found lacking are still there. On it's own it's a fine movie, but for me it's still not the movie I was looking for (been reading the books over and over since 1978...). Go see it, and judge for yourselves.

I don't understand how you didn't like it? I first read the books when i was 11, and have re-read, or re-listened to the unabridged audio book at least once every couple years, in fact i just did 3 days ago, They really did not change much, what they did change was for dramatic purposes to take a boring scene from the book and build it up (Gandalf's return from learning that Bilbo's ring was the ring of power for instance)

******SPOILER*******(how can you spoil something that we all know the story of anyway?)

The only odd part was that they told the backstory of the ring in the opening, instead of Gandalf telling it when he returns after finding Gollum)

The only "problems" i had with the film, was the Time sense, It was hard to get a scope of how much time passes, the trip from The Shire to Rivendel could have taken 1 day. Also , They Show Anduril broken, and then Aragorn Using it, with no mention it being remade, And the Fellowship has their cloaks from Lothlorien, but never shows them getting them, its little things like that that bothered me, but over all i'm 99% satisfied with the film, and i think that it will only get better when it can be seen as a full story with the other 2 movies)

Lord of the Rings : The Two Towers 364 days and counting...
• Personally I thought I was simply brilliant: the effects were great; the settings were perfect; the acting was great by all concerned, and considering how unwieldy much of the dialogue is and the difficulty of some of the parts (Galadriel especially).

The best bit I think was the whole Moria Mine sequence, and especiall Gandalf's fight with the Balrog, which although a little too short in my opinion, was excellently executed, and the CGI Balrog was simply astounding.

In short, it's one of the best cinema releases of the year.

No film can be a book. Apples and oranges.

My opinion? A masterwork created by the right director (obsessed LOTR devotee and visionary) and crew, with mostly the right actors (some brilliant casting), and shot in the perfect place. A few lines missed (very few) in the script that could have helped with a few important things left unexplained. Some inspired writing.

No Rangers trailer.

Did see a Rangers trailer with the LOTR documentary on TV. Not much there.

New goal: move to Humboldt County in far northern California and build a Hobbit house on a hundred acres of meadow and trees – I know just the spot.

• Hey guys, I have a question about the "The Lord of the Rings" movie.
Was there a special program booklet that could be bought available
at the theaters on the opening day? I've heard of no such thing so far,
but I'm not sure.
• JackNJackN Lightwave Alien
Nope no program booklet at our theater. I haven't seen one of those since the movie Dune came to theaters so many years ago...

I also saw no trailer for Legend of the Rangers either, although I found it humorous that one of the characters in Lord of the RIngs was a Ranger.

I'm sure you would. I'm also sure you're intelligent to recognise the significance of JMS using the Ranger name.

Why didn'y you like the ending, Jack? Personally, I thought it was one of the greatest endings I had ever seen in a movie. I was in tears by the time the credits began rolling.

• Regarding Legend of the Rangers; why do so many of you think there would be a trailer for it before Lord of the Rings? Lord of the Rings is a huge cinema release that's going to be as big as Star Wars; Legend of the Rangers is going to be a small time film shown on the Sci-fi channel some time in the new year and only in the US.
I don't need to tell you which is going to be culturally more important or well known.
With Lord of the Rings, people who aren't fans and who have never read the books will go to see it because it is one of the event movies of the year, Legend of the Rangers isn't even on the same planet, let alone the same league. So I'm a little perplaxed as to why some of you thought that there would be a trailer for Legend of the Rangers - get real.

Shuup Nick:

We were expecting it, because JMS had mentioned the deal being made to show the trailer in conjunction with the Lord of the Rings theatrical release.

It will be a few days I guess before this occurs. As always, it's a matter of timing...

Just back from seeing LOTR here in London UK.

Wow.

But heres a little pop quiz. How many things did you count that are referenced in Babylon 5 in some way?

I counted 4

Possible SPoiler alert ---

1). Strider is a "Ranger" and bizarrely looks like Marcus

2). The Shadows.

3). The "Shadows" live in a place whose exact spelling I dont have but sounds very very similar to Zhahadun

4). Lorien is the ultra Elf. Wrong sex of course but thats a cosmetic to skim over :-)

• I was impressed. I didn't read the LOTR, Tolkien's writing just didn't appeal to me,but this movie was damn good.

It was as imersive as a movie can be, which is what I believe a movie should do...transport you to the setting in a way.

The fight scenes...WOW!The battle with Sauron was in epic proportions that Cecil B Demille would have been proud of, if he had been able to do something that big.

Fleeing from the Ring Wraiths...I found myself squirming and jumping in my seat, and had a sense of urgency and fear I've never felt while watching a movie.

What can be said of the scenery that hasn't been said, no movie I've seen has done that better. Last of the Mohicans got an Oscar for cinematography(sp?), but LOTR takes it one...make that three steps further.

*Most* of the CGI was invisable. The cave troll while great looking, you could still tell it was cgi along with that fire creature in the mines.

The biggest complaint I have wasn't about the movie, it was the theatre. The only one in our area that had it on also has a screen not much bigger than a big screen tv, and a crappy sound system.

In a couple of weeks it will be on at the theatre here in town and I'll see it again...the first time I'll have ever paid to see the same movie in a theatre twice.
