Region 2 DVD's

CactusheadCactushead Earthforce Officerbeyond the rim
Just to remind everyone that the long wait for Region 2 DVD's of In The Beginning and The Gathering are due for release on Monday.

I've just been told that my copies are already in the post - they could be sitting next to my Region 1 version by tomorrow

Does anyone know, is there any difference between these two releases? (aside 1/2 disks, NTSC/PAL)
• RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
not really.. if you are thinking "extras"... though we have a german sound-track...
• The region 2 disc will have an audio commentary on them or something like that though

ah? what? i have my region 2 ItB DVD, and there is no such thing even closely resembling an audio commentary....

Where did the audio commentary idea come from?

Just to confirm that both the Region 2 DVD's of The Gathering and In The Beginning are the same as the Region 1 versions.

The only thing different is that they come as single disks costing the same each as the Region 1 version cost for both - typical!

You do however get DVD-ROM enhanced features which include "web events, chat room access and web site links" all of which are completely useless addons in my opinion.

The six month wait was not spent adding new features, it looks like it was simply to add various audio and subtitles for the European market.

Lets just hope that the season box sets (if we ever get them) can provide something extra for the fans to complement such an excellent TV series.
And please put them in proper DVD cases Warner Bros.

At least I can now say I've got a Babylon 5 DVD collection, as I have three sitting next to each other

Just seen the UK pricing for the 2 vids... geez what a rip off! I'm glad I bought the R1 version, even though it ment splashing out on a multiregion player.

Role on those damn box sets!

That's where I got all mine

What a shock that it costs £13.99 for both films on Region 1 and £14.99 each for Region 2.
No wonder region free players are selling so well over here in the UK.

• Cactushead,

As you have both region copies could you answer the following, please.
1) Are the versions of 'The gathering' the same
2) Is the R1 'In the begining' anamorphic or not
3) Has the PAL conversion improved the picture quality at all

And for anyone
4) Is the R1 & R4 disc the same except the packaging.

Cheers

Ridcully,

1) Yes, they're both the re-edited special edition
2) No, it's a "matted" 16:9 Widescreen
3) Hard to say as I have to play them on different setups but I can't see any major differences between them.
4) Haven't a scooby

Yep! Thats where I do all my dvd and music shopping! Its a fantastic site and their prices are superb, so much cheaper than high street store prices, and other dvd websites, you save a packet over a years purchases. Just pre-ordered Lord of the Rings, 2 disc set for £17.99, bargain!

• Thanks for the info, R4 import here I come.

Slightly OT but Play is not always the cheapest try http://www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk/ to find out the cheapest place for a disc. The only problem I've come across is it gets the shipping wrong for box sets with places that ship by weight rather than number of discs.
