Warner's PR have released this updated look at the artwork for the "Babylon 5" Season 1 release. Note that the exploded packshot looks like a mock up to me but I guess it gives us an idea of what it's going to look like.

The clear plastic DVD-holder is nothing new. You see it a lot with multi-disc sets. The Transformers season 1 DVD set has them.
what on earth could be censored from the show? it wasnt on hbo or anything
TV Censorship in the UK is a bit more strict than here in the US. Parts of the episode "TKO" were censored because it featured "bare fisted fighting".

Mostly it's violence that is cut over here in the UK and the occasional bad word.
If it's shown past the watershed (9pm) then you'll probably get the most untouched version you'll likely to get here.
But unfortunately most of our popular sci-fi series seems to be shown between 6pm and 9pm and are therefore subject to the butchers block.
Any time a knife is used to stab someone you'll find it gets cut out of the show. (no pun intended)
It wouldn't be so bad but I think they use some really dumb ass trainee to edit the shows as there are some truly awful and obvious cuts.

If you've ever seen something like Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the UK then you'll know just what I mean as we never see any blades, knifes or even stakes actually penetrating the enemy’s skin.
One cut was so bad I actually lost track of what was happening in the episode.

Censorship is all fine and dandy but when it interferes with the narrative you have to ask if you’re scheduling the show in the correct time slot.

Basically, Sci-fi is not respected enough over here.

• Well they shouldn't censor this. I mean prime time TV is one thing, but censoring a DVD set, I cant fathom a democratic government doing that.

Speaking of cool violence on prime time TV, did anybody here see the ER season premere last week?

I've just read that the Region 2 version of the LOTR Special Edition will have 1.5-ish minutes cut from one of the documentaries on the extra disks. So it seems they're willing to do this to dvd's aswell. I hope they leave the B5 stuff alone though! The last thing we need is to see a rehash of the way Channel 4 handles stuff like this. I remember watching one of the episodes of Angel from season 1 and he was fighting these Nazi like demons on a boat. He was attached by 5-6 of them, and then suddenly they were all flat ont heir backs. Hmmmm, very crap editing.

All fine and dandy? You Brits must be brainwashed... I hate censorship in any form. In the case of children, parents should be keeping track of what their children watch. In the case of adults, they can use their own judgement to decide whether they should watch something or not.

Try to censor TV or radio up here in Canada and you are greeted with an uproar. Only restrictions here (except for laws againt hardcore pornography before a certain time (11:00pm I think) or on scrambled channels). I take pride in the fact that I can turn on a Canadian radio station and hear any words that the song calls for, or see un-edited versions of movies on my television.

On the subject of censorship..

Censorship is a good thing in certain circumstances. Anything of a racist or right-wing nature SHOULD be censored immediately, I mean, if a film was released promoting racist activity do you really think that should be allowed to be shown on TV?

Don’t get me wrong, I really hate censorship on our T.V.’s here in the U.K.
From my point of view, why bother showing a film or show if it’s not going to be shown in it’s entirety as intended.
We get far too many films with the words “edited for T.V.” underneath their description in our T.V. mags.

Before the watershed should be safe viewing for children but for goodness sake after that just leave the progs well alone.

There’s this whole mentality of “mothering” from our T.V. stations and government.
When will they realize that we’re all adults and have this amazing gift to be able to choose what we find acceptable for ourselves and if we’re offended by something we have the ability to simply press a button to change channel?

There is a definite need for censorship, but it should be solely for the well being of children and not to enforce others opinions on the general public.

Which begs the question, "What's on the Sci-Fi channels between 11pm and 5am?"

Klingons: Does your mate throw like a girl?

Vulcan Love Slave Part II: The Revenge

Snow White and the Seven Narns

The mind boggles.

They say Hick Finn is raceist, so should that book be banned? Anything has the right to be on the air, just as people should have the right not to watch it.
• JamboJambo Scriptkiddie
No, everything does not “have the right to air”

If I made a film around the subject of immigration and it basically promoted harassing immigrant families so they leave “our country”, then that should be allowed to air?

Anything promoting these filthy racist values or far-right beliefs should be immediate denied to be shown or broadcasted.

Yes, it should be. And the backlash from the public to the makers of the film would be intence. No ONE has the right to say that they are right and the others are wrong. And where will you draw the line? Manything can be interprited in many ways. Like I said, some say huck finn is racist, others say that it is anti-raciset. So who should decide weather or not the book is allowed in public libraries?
