The Agamemnon Chronicles

Right, here comes my own Marty Stu'd fanfiction...

Time to make you suffer, MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Well, actually, it's not ready yet, hehe, still working on Part 1...

But, I've had this idea for a while, seeing as the Agamemnon is my favourite Capship in B5, so it makes sense.

But, does anyone know the time frame in which Sheridan served aboard the Agamemnon?

  • Well, here we go...keep in mind it hasn't been beta read, so don't kill me...

The Agamemnon Chronicles - Part 1

On board the EAS Agamemnon, the internal PA system crackled, as a young male voice came over it to deliver the ship's news.

Good morning, this is your daily update, brought to you by myself, Petty Officer Myers.

Today, we say a fond fairwell to Captain Hall, who is to spend time on Earth due to an eye infection which, unfortunately, cannot be treated aboard ship. Therefore, we've been given a new Captain, John Sheridan. We give Captain Sheridan a warm welcome, and hope he quickly grows accustomed to life aboard the Agamemnon .

The Agamemnon is on her third day of defence watches in the Vega system. As such, we remain on twenty four hour alert. All crew are advised to use their six hours off duty to rest and relax as much as possible.

Those up on the Bridge right now will be lucky enough to see, up close, the view of the comet currently passing through this system. The Captain allowed for a brief detour from our patrol route so we could take shots of the comet, and that will allow for a spectacular, and rather rewarding show. It will give the rest of us currently not on the Bridge something to look forward to after we've completed defence watches.

    That is all.

    =/\=

    "Captain on deck!"

The harsh voice of the Officer of the Watch on duty caused everyone to stand at attention, as Captain Sheridan stepped onto the Bridge with ease.

His eyes quickly scanned the crew standing at attention, and he smiled to reassure them. "At ease, everyone."

Immediately, everyone relaxed, and began returning to their various duties.

In the centre seat was Captain Hall. The former Captain of the Agamemnon was a man older than Sheridan, with silvery, greying hair, and a heavy look about him. From what Sheridan had heard about him, he was a stubborn old fool, but he was a nice man once you got to know him. Everyone who served with him, including and especially his own son, thought highly of him.

Right now, he wore an eyepatch, which covered the left of his dark blue eyes, and Sheridan suppressed a smile as Hall stood up at attention, and saluted him.

Sheridan stood straight and tall, curtly returing the salute.

"I relieve you, sir." Sheridan said.

Hall nodded. "I stand relieved, sir." He replied, his voice gruff and coarse, making him sound like an old General, a war hero making way for the new generation. He stepped aside from the centre seat. "She's all yours, Captain. Take care of her." He said, before briskly walking off the Bridge.

Sheridan took a minute to absorb the majesty of what he saw before him. The Bridge of an Omega class Destroyer was only slightly bigger than that of a Hyperion class Heavy Cruiser. But on this ship, everything seemed just that little bit more advanced. He settled down in the chair, it's comfortable leather seeming to sooth his backside from the moment they came into contact.

On the left armrest of the chair, there was a small control panel, upon which were a number of buttons. He tapped one of them, hoping they each did the same things as on the old Hyperion class cruisers, and spoke aloud. "Captain's Personal Log, November 12, 2255. EAS Agamemnon, John Sheridan commanding.

Today I take command of the Agamemnon. She certainly is a change from my last posting, at the Sol Inner Defence base at Io. And she's definitely a far cry from my last shipboard posting, the EAS Lexington. When I joined Earthforce, I never would have dreamed of taking command of a ship like this. I suppose I'll have to get used to just walking everywhere rather than floating.

I've already begun to get a feel for how this ship works. In the coming weeks, I hope to learn more about her."

With that, he pressed the button again to deactivate the log entry.

    =/\=

"Officer watch, come left twelve degrees, angle down zee minus five degrees port ventral, steady as she goes."

"Quartermaster, come left twelve degrees, angle down zee minus five degrees port ventral, all steady, aye."

Sheridan watched as the ship's helmsman, Quartermaster Robert Dunstan, expertly kept the ship under control as she dived down and to her left. His eyes narrowed as he concentrated on his control panel, in keeping the ship steady in such a tight manouvre. If he wasn't careful, the ship could easily spin out of control.

"Officer watch, all stop." Sheridan said.

"All stop, aye." The Officer of the Watch, Lieutenant Sarah Price, called out, repeating the orders given by Sheridan.

Sheridan watched with increasing satisfaction as the crew efficiently carried out their orders. Nodding, he stood beside Price. "Good work everyone. I look forward to serving with this ship and crew, hopefully for many years to come. That is all, carry on."

Turning towards Price, a small woman with sandy hair, he said "Do you know where the Exec is?"

She frowned for a second. "If I recall, sir, he was seeing Captain Hall off in the shuttlebay."

"Hmm," Sheridan responded. "Well, give Hall permission to leave, then have Commander James meet me in my quarters."

She nodded, and walked off to comply with the order.

    =/\=

Lieutenant Commander Frederick James stood in Sheridan's quarters, at full attention, and waiting for his new commanding officer to explain his presence here.

James looked around. These quarters had previously been occupied by Captain Hall. When they had, they'd contained many of his personal effects. Sheridan, however, seemed to just keep a few pictures of his wife, and that was it. James liked to know all he could about his C.O.'s, and this didn't tell him much about Sheridan.

"Lieutenant Commander James, reporting as ordered, sir." He said, giving Sheridan the statutory salute. Sheridan was sitting on the couch in his quarters, looking closely at him.

Sheridan eyed the man slowly, before saying "At ease, Commander. I've brought you here because I want you to be my eyes and ears among the crew. If anyone has any problems with the way I run this ship, I want you to keep me informed. Under my command, you will be free to express any opinions you may have, and as such I see it as part of your duty to tell me when I'm being an ass. Is that clear?"

James nodded. "I will, of course, obey any orders you give, sir."

Sheridan smiled. "Good. But at the same time, I don't want you to be some mindless automoton. You are also free to use your own judgement in matters concerning the crew, and anything which falls under your jurisdiction as my Executive Officer."

James again nodded, staying at attention. "Aye sir."

With that, Sheridan got up. "And I said, at ease soldier. I expect my orders to be obeyed." He extended out an arm, and again smiled at him. James shook it, and smiled back.

    "Welcome aboard, sir."

"Thanks, it's good to be here." Sheridan said. "Dismissed, Commander."

James turned, and briskly marched out.

Sheridan relaxed back on the couch, chuckling to himself. James reminded him of an officer he'd served with aboard Io, one Lieutenant Susan Ivanova. He'd given her the same speech, and it had also suceeded in breaking down the barrier she imposed around herself which made her seem cold and distant. Sheridan had always prided himself on being a good people person.

Suddenly, the internal PA system came to life, and the red alert alarm sounded. The voice of Lieutenant Price sounded through his quarters. "Alert, alert, all hands on deck. Captain Sheridan, report to the Bridge. General quarters, I repeat, General quarters, all hands on deck. Captain Sheridan, report to the Bridge."

Instantly, Sheridan sprang up, and walked briskly out of his quarters.

    =/\=

"Captain on deck!" Price called out, as he quickly settled into his chair.

"Report." He ordered, swiveling his chair around to face the small main screen on the forward bulkhead. It showed a map of the system, and the Agamemnon's current position.

James had already arrived at the Bridge before him, and was studying a small handheld computer pad.

"We've picked up a distress call from a civillian freighter in the outer edges of the system." He said, handing the pad to Sheridan. "She's under attack from raiders."

"Officer watch, activate jump engines." Sheridan said, standing up and quickly going to study the main screen. "Target beacon one one eight."

"Aye." Price said, before turning to repeat the order to Quartermaster Dunstan.

Immediately, the ship began to rumble as the Agamemnon engaged her jump engines, and made the jump into hyperspace.

Sheridan looked again down at the computer pad, and called up the co-ordinates for the distress call. "Target, bearing, mark...nine nine seven one four. Best speed."

Again, Price repeated his orders to the Quartermaster, and Sheridan sat back down in his seat, handing the computer pad back to James.

With that, the Agamemnon charged onwards.

  • Well, here we go, part 2.

Oh, and thanks a lot everyone, I really appreciate all those kind things you said about part 1.

    *******

The Agamemnon Chronicles - Part 2

Captain's Log, supplemental. We've arrived at the co-ordinates of a distress call recieved from a freighter on the edge of this star system, but so far, we've found nothing. Scans show small debris twenty thousand klicks from the location of the distress beacon, but not enough to account for the freighter.

We identified the remains as being from the freighter Pride of Olympus Mons , registered with the Mars based corporation, Edgars Industries. Her captain logged in as carrying certain supplies for medical research purposes, things which could only be gained from the outer colonies, and in alien star systems. However, none of it is valuable enough to attract the attention of raiders, which makes me wonder as to whether there's someone else behind this attack.

After examining some of the debris, my Chief Engineer insists that the ship must have been pulled into hyperspace with the Raiders when she vanished. Since there is no local jumpgate nearby, the Raiders must have been picked up by a vessel large enough to create it's own jump point. If it's true, then the implications are not going to be good.

Earthdome has approved my request to take the Agamemnon off defense watches to search for the missing freighter, and the Raider starship. We are to hold position here until we are relieved by the Hyperion .

    =/\=

Chief Engineer Alexandra Fulcher waded carefully through the twisted remains the freighter's engine, making sure not to get her uniform caught on any of the sharp edges. She had half a mind to complain to the shuttle pilots who had thought it necessary to dump all this crap on her. Most of it was useless junk, not even fit for a garbage scow, while the rest had already served it's usefulness.

She looked up, wiping away a strand of her fiery red hair, as Commander James walked into the Agamemnon's cavernous cargo bay, then quietly swore as her trouser leg got caught on a piece of debris. She was about to reach down and unhook it, when James noticed her, and quickly walked over.

"Commander." He said, giving her a quick salute, which she returned. "The Captain want's to know if you've got anything else useful for him."

"Then why not just contact me over the link." She grumbled quietly, her faint irish accent punctuating her words. She was trying to untangle her trouser leg without James noticing, but eventually gave up.

"What was that?" James said, looking dissaprovingly at her. He actually had heard what she said, but James had known Fulcher long enough to know that her temper was sometimes as fiery as her hair, and she had, in the past, had some trouble with insubordination. James preferred to look over it, though, because she was a fine Chief Engineer.

She quickly stopped moving her leg, and stood at attention, saying "Nothing, sir."

James smiled, in what he hoped was a reassuring manner. "The Captain wants to speak with you personally. He likes to get to know his officers before serving with them, and he feels that talking over a link is a bit impersonal."

Fulcher resisted the urge to roll her eyes, and glanced around, indicating towards the debris littered around the bay, with various technicians analysing them, despite the fact there was nothing left to analyse. "Well, to tell you the truth, there's nothing more that can be done here. This is mostly the remains from a standard class two McKenzie-Coltrane sub-light engine. You'll usually find them on freighters because of their cheapness, and long service life, to say nothing of their reliability."

James frowned. "Mostly? What's the rest, then?"

"Debris from a Raider fighter." She said, and was about to go and show James when she remembered her leg, and decided to stay put until he was gone.

James looked as though he were about to say something, then thought better of it. Instead, he said "You can tell the Captain all about it, he's waiting for you in his quarters."

With that, James turned, and slowly made his way out, trying to avoid stepping on any of the debris, which was a pretty difficult task.

Fulcher looked around, then remembered her trouser leg, and grumbled as she pulled it off, and cut her hand on the sharp edge. "Damnit!" She mumbled, and stepped forwards without looking, only to get her leg caught on another piece, and she fell headlong onto the deck.

    =/\=

"A destroyed Raider fighter?" Sheridan looked thoughtful. "Why didn't you report this earlier?"

Fulcher stood there, her hands clasped behind her back in an effort to hide the bandage on her right hand, and said "I hadn't yet finished my analysis of the debris, Captain."

Sheridan nodded, putting it aside, and getting back to the point. "Did your analysis tell you what type of weapons fire caused the debris?"

She nodded, and extended her left hand, which was holding a sheet of paper, upon which it had the full report of her findings.

Sheridan took the paper, and glanced over it. When he reached the bit he wanted, his eyes widened in disbelief. "Did you check this?" He said, knowing already what the answer would be.

"Three times, sir. There's no doubt about it."

Sheridan stood up, and rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "What was an Earthforce Starfury doing escorting a freighter?"

Fulcher just stood there, staring plainly at the wall of Sheridan's quarters. On it was a painting of Earth, and a caption which read "For I dip't into the future, far as human eye could see. Saw the vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be..."

Sheridan looked at her. "Dismissed, Commander." She turned, and briskly walked out, leaving Sheridan alone to ponder.

    =/\=

"I'm telling you, Captain, we have no Starfuries currently deployed in the Vega system." General Hague looked flustered, as though he had a million things to do, and not enough time to do them in. "The only Earthforce presence we have there at the moment is you, and the Hyperion." He added.

Sheridan sighed, and shook his head, pacing around his quarters in frustration.

"Are you sure it wasn't from an older Starfury? You know as well as I that Earthforce has sold off it's outdated weapons and technology on the free market. Maybe the freighter hired some Mercenaries using some old Earthforce equipment?" Hague looked as though he wanted to help, but that was all he could offer Sheridan.

Sheridan had anticipated that question, though, had even checked out the answer to it himself. "No sir. This was definitely from a top-of-the-line Aurora class Starfury, same ones we've got in our hangar right now." He sighed again, and turned back to his old friend.

Hague nodded. "Well, that's what you're there to find out, Captain. Solve this mystery, and find out what those Starfuries were doing out there in the first place. Keep me informed, Captain, Hague out."

The screen went blank, to show the seal of the Earth Alliance, and a charge for the call, which was payed for by Earthforce.

Sheridan was about to head for the Bridge when the computer suddenly announced "Incoming transmission. Source unknown."

Sheridan looked up at the screen, which had now gone blank, and said "Display transmission."

The screen suddenly switched to a swirling display of orange, red and yellow, seemingly without form. For some reason, Sheridan couldn't do anything but stare blankly at it, until it dissapeared a few seconds later. The computer's voice, saying "Transmission ended.", brought him out of his strange trance.

He turned, and walked out of his quarters. Within a few minutes, he'd already forgotten the whole thing.

    =/\=

"Captain on deck!" Officer of the Watch Sarah Price called out, as Sheridan stepped onto the Bridge.

"Carry on." He said, settling down into his chair. "When's the Hyperion due to arrive?" He asked, directing his question to Comms Technician Peter Myers.

The young Lieutenant looked up from his station, and removed his headset. "About half an hour, sir."

Sheridan nodded. "Signal them that we won't be able to meet them as planned, but they're to forward any distress calls to us in hyperspace. Send my regards to Captain Pierce."

Myers nodded, and put the headset back on, sending the transmission to the Hyperion.

Sheridan looked up at Price. "Officer watch, prepare to jump on my command. Target local beacon."

Price relayed his orders immediately to Quartermaster Dunstan, and Sheridan tapped his link. "Commander Fulcher."

The Irish woman's voice came over the link's tiny speaker clearly, with a hint of frustration in it. "Fulcher here, sir."

"You have my permission to space each and every last bit of debris from the cargo bay. Do it quick, we're jumping out in five minutes.

The relief in her voice was plainly evident. "Aye aye sir, I'll have it done in two."

The link shut off, and Sheridan leaned back in his chair, waiting.

"Debris away, Captain." James reported, looking up from a display behind him. Sheridan swiveled his chair to face it, and James looked at him. "Commander Fulcher expresses her gratitude for having the sense to get it out of her cargo bay, sir."

Sheridan smiled, and nodded in acknowledgement. Swiveling back to face the main screen and system map, he ordered "Jump."

The Agamemnon ripped open the fabric of space, and soared into hyperspace.
