Why? You know, Bill Gates gets dogged so much and I have to sit back and ask...why? Because he's the riches man alive? So? He made his money. It wasn't given to him. He didn't inherit it. He made it. Personally, I kinda admire the man. I don't know every little detail of his buisness dealings but I don't think he's done anything worse than any other company out there. (Ok, when you mention Wolrdcom or Enron, that's not saying much...but still) He did it on his own, no help at the start. Now look at him. I just think everyone is jealous that he did it and no one else can. So what if he has a monoply on the OS market. I don't see anyone else rising to the challenge. Don't even mention Linux. It's crap, but no one will admit it because it's the only other thing out there. I'm sorry but I don't buy half the arguments about why Gates is SO bad...

Blasphemer!!!!!
• I also admire him as a businessman. He made it from nothing to the richest person on the planet in 20 odd years, which is no small feat. He had the vision and the brains to realize where the money could be made, and he did it. IMHO, a lot of MS's software now is really good, XP finally has the stability and the functionality that a desktop platform really needs, and anyone who rips on office (other than it's high price) is crazy, it's an extremely powerful combination of programs for productivity. And their optical mice rule.

Linux, on the other hand, is also a great os...but anyone who thinks it could ever be a mainstream desktop platform is dreaming. It's just too touchy and takes too much time to configure stuff properly. That and you have to look all over the place to make sure you have the latest updates for every little part of the OS, which was probably developed by 20 different people. In a server, under the control of someone who knows what they are doing and can harness it's power, however, linux is extremely capable.

I can understand why people might dislike his business methods, but why the personal animosity?

Take a look at what he's doing in India. Take a good, strong look. Through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (one of the most active and productive charity organizations in the world), he's giving $100,000,000 of his own money to help them fight AIDS, because their current practices in that arena are lousy; namely, turning HIV-infected people out of hospitals, and refusing to see that there might be a problem because of the immense social stigma it presents.

Personally, I think he should focus more of his efforts towards African countries, but that's not to say he's not doing a great deal with his current methods. So lay off the personal attacks; he's doing what he can with what he has, when he has no obligation to do anything.

I have nothing against Bill Gates. He's clearly an excellent businessman. It's MS being the playground bully that I don't like.

Agreed. What they should've done was make a condom big enough to cover Micro$oft's main headquarters. That would really be one helluva rubber...

I dislike Bill Gates because
1) I still have morals and would like others to adhere to them- just you know, the basics like don't steal, cheat, lie, that kind of thing. Work hard for what you want, dont take credit for others work, ect.
2) True, he donates massive sums of money. However, how am I supposed to believe he is doing this from the bottom of his heart when he stole most of the tech to make his money in the first place? And how much is just (sadly) a PR stunt?
3) MS is a monopoly. Bill Gates made it that way. He supported and still does support anti competitive practices. So you say, " so what, thats what capilism is. The best guy wins" However, how many choices do you have for an OS? Only one, at least for gamers. What does almost every PC come preloaded with? windows.
Those are just some of my gripes.
