Get upto Broome, to Alice Springs and Darwin, do that and you'll see the better parts of AU on the way.

If that's what you want, New Zealand is the place to go. Australia would also be good, although at that time of year it might be a little hot in the parts worth seeing. You could always do them both at the same time.

you'll have to pick one and really... its a matter of climate.. both have great stuff, just depends on your tastes weather wise.
NZ is perhaps a warmish England in climate and has a pretty high rainfall, alot milder than most of AU, cooler too.
If you do the 'proper' parts of AU you should be ok in April. I'd get yourself a flight to SYDNEY, then catch the domestic Virgin Blue connectors to the 'good' parts of AU. I wouldnt spend anymore than a day or two in Sydney. Catch the ferry from circular quay to Bondi and youve seen all the good parts of Sydney.. [img]http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/biggrin.gif[/img]
I'd go North, and I mean really north.. Alice Springs, see Ayers Rock (Ulluru) and head North from there to Darwin, then up into Kakadu or go 'left' out to Broome. Broome is a tropical pearling town with a fantastic reef.. with much less tourists than the Barrier Reef in Queensland. You can also go pat DOlphins at Monkey Mia if you like. You can prolly expect the dolphins to be facinated with a prostheisis. They are very clever lil fellas.
you'll run out of days faster than you think, if you hire a car, just remember up North there is bugger all between towns, take water, maybe an extra spare tire and be mindful of the cattle and Roos... they can ruin the front of a car very very easily. Also, in the Northern Territory there is an OPEN speed limit.. ie outside of town you can go as fast as conditions allow, like Montana (?). Be prepared to have your doors blown off by a passing car even if youre doing 60mph.
Not sure on price but you may want to hire a minibego (quite small Winnebago), and drive up from Alice to Darwin/Broome/Kakadu. I would imagine that if you like your independence its the way to go. You can always drop into a caravan park(trailer park) for a shower and plug in an so forth. Only way to go in my opinion.. you can unpack your lugguage and take your room with you.
