it has to do with if it is translatable in less then 48 hours, 48 hours only by fast ships, a miliary routs (this is by the RPG which it's cannon is ify) B5W (continuty edited) states them as major, minor and restricted
most of the map appears to be cannon as far as i can tell

Netter did use some Macs in the production process, but not decent ones like the G4's, they only had PowerPC 604e processor based Macs, which are PII equivelants. Most of their stuff was done on SGI Octanes as far as I remember.

no. The Universe is the base OS. Reality is the SHell. Z'Ha'Dum is the trash can, your home is 'my computer.' Lorien is the system BIOS, and cannot die. Shadows are virii, vorlons are the anti-virus. Each star system is a folder, with the star as the folder branching from the root, and the different planets as the sub folders. the individual files are the living beings themselves. When they fight, bad sectors are formed. The Interstellar alliance was, in essence, a scandisk procedure, which isolated the bad sectors and made them unusable from then on. It also eliminated the virii, which made the anti-virus useless, so it went away. This was attemted earlier, but caused much data loss. A format was almost done, but enough was kept to make it worth saving.

Netter used Intel and DEC Alpha based machines with Windows NT for their Lightwave work.
As for compositing and other functions, I couldn't say. Maybe Macs and SGI's were used there.
Foundation on the other hand started with strictly Amiga, because that was the only machine at the time which had the Video Toaster (where Lightwave was born from). They eventually went Intel Windows NT after Lightwave was made stand alone, and didn't require the Toaster hardware anymore.
Up until January of 2000, they were still strictly Intel PC running Windows NT.
