Music on the site

I don't mean big MP3 downloads.

When I had a small site up for my school I had a midi going in the background.

I don't know how you do it (friend did the html) but I quess you would.

  • Music wouldn't be that gould, one tune on constant repeat gets annoying quickly

We can do it, but I personally hate looping music, and midi's in general...
  • Well depending on the synthesizer you're using, midi's can sound pretty good. Unfortunately with the generic synth which most windows system uses, midis do tend to sound like crap and repeating midis do get annoying.

I can't wait for the day when our connections are so fast that we can download mp3's in the time it takes to download midis today.

    Hi once again, E3
Well, ther e is something neat...
IN Win98 SE, there is an option for Software Wavetable, which actually sounds VERY nice. it is better, in some areas, that a hardware Wavetable Setup. All you do is go into Control pannels, multimedia, then Midi, then under the "Single INstrument" Radio Button, there should be a few options. if your card is a Synth, then it will offer the option for Software Wavetable. Click on the Sopftware Wavetable Option, and Click 'OK'
    You are done!
go get a midi and play, and see how good it sounds...

Whatever you do, DON'T put looping MIDI music in the background!

Since homepage building software became easy to use, embedded MIDI music ranks right up there with flashing text, underlined words that AREN'T links, stolen images and animated "e-mail me" icons among things that indicate a beginner's homepage.

Not to offend anyone who uses it, but I've NEVER seen MIDI music on a professional high-quality page.

Embedded MIDI music is VERY annoying, especially for someone who visits a page very frequently. It just doesn't sound good. Even with a kick-ass card (like the SB Live) with great sound fonts, MIDI songs sound like elevator music or cheap knock-offs of the original songs. Especially for something like Babylon 5 music.

Sorry for the rant, but embedded music just tweaks a nerve.

  • Must agree with Sammy on this one in every aspect. Looping midi music is incredibly annoying and is generally found on amatuer sites. Using looping midi's here will degrade the professional look of FirstOnes to that of a cheaply done amatuer StarWars site(hope I'm not offending anyone).

And yes, I have to give my own two cents whenever possible too. It's a compulsive thing.
