Some ideas/new forum rules

If we are going to make this place THE place for Babylon 5 fans, we might want to think about doing a couple of things. We need to put spoiler warnings and the season thats being spoiled in our posts. Newbies hate it when us veterans spoil the series for them. Another idea that the FirstOnes staff might want to think about is combining the mods and these forums together. Also, have you guys thought about merging with other sites? Just some messed up food for thought....

    I think the reason why the main and mods forums are still separeted is, that there are different registration and post-databases, and that it's quite difficult to "join" them, and i don't know how the access-right thingies are implemented here, that might pose some problems too [img]http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/frown.gif[/img]

    As far as the forums go, here are my 2 cents:

    I think the forums in general need to be seriously reworked. There are simply [b]way too many[/b] and that is never good. Its nice to try to neatly organize things into neatly divided categories but it just doesn't work well in reality. Simplicity is beauty. Most people will never bother to look through more than one or two of the forums which will leave a lot of the secondary ones nearly abandoned. Having more people concentrated in one area stimulates conversation more and keeps them comming back. The current primary B5:ItF forum needs to be renamed to something else. I personally think the new B5, Crusade, and LOTR forums should be consolidated into one primary one, what is now B5:ItF. There no real sense in having them seperated and secondary when they are the very purpose of the site. The Zocalo should stay of course as a place to discuss all non B5 related and technical stuff much like it is now. I can't coment on the international gamers forums since I honestly never visit them but it seems to me like they are not necessary with the Zocalo etc. The Artwork and Fanfic ones are fine I guess. We should also put a big ass easy to find button on the front page that links to the forums for new people to just want to click and visit the them, not to mention start replacing the ItF logos on the main page with general B5 stuff [img]http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/smile.gif[/img]

    Also, are we going to start phasing out the ItF forum into the B5/Crusade/B5:LR/Zocalo?

    I agree I would like some things to change. Mainly I don't think we need the 15 forums that exist now. Since we won't be talking about only ITF here anymore, it makes sense to merge the Zocalo back into the main forum. I also don't think we need seperate forums for Warleader posts, or for people from other countries. If someone doesn't want to read a post they should just not enter the thread, there's no need to shield people by having them in seperate forums. I do understand the problem with the Warleader posts though [img]http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/biggrin.gif[/img]

    Honestly, the only forums I visit here are the Zocalo, Artwork, and this one. I do feel like I'm missing out on some things, but it's just too much of a pain to go to 4 other forums to get in on it. Just my 3 cents.

    well, for the international forums, here are my 2 cents:

    we in the german forum, post in german there, there are some people that don't speak that good english, and we help them out, and we keep talking about our own stuff there too.. if you'll look at our postcout, youll see, that we have quite evolved into a little place with some activity... as for the other ones... i think it should be looked at what languages are needed, as there are some forums where in fact noone posts. maybe these should be changed to other languages or so... what i like about the international forums is, that i can post there about b5 and other stuff in my native language, and don't have to go anywhere else

    Maybe we we can combine just the "dead" international forums into one internationall forum. We do need to get rid of many of the forums though. Art/fanfic can be combined into one forum. Most site suggestions are posted here (like this topic) instead of the site suggestion forum. I would like to see the mod guys over here, it would strengthen the community even more. Now that school is out I can come here more [img]http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/biggrin.gif[/img]

    OK, regarding the forums:

    Ideas for saving the game can go.
    Dev and webmaster news isnt really needed anymore. For webmaster news, it can go on the main page.
    The series specific ones: DG has already said he wants to get rid of them becuase they split up discussion too much.
    Warleader forum: We don't really need it.
    Contest forums: They'll be needed soon for a limited time, after that they can be archived.
    That's 8 out of 19 forums gone.

    Uh, I disagree!
    I feel that it would be best to organize the forums along interests (i.e. fiction, art, fan ware (sims, mods, small games), maybe music).

    As for the international forums: As a member of the German forum I would hate to see it go -- that would certainly drive people away from FirstOnes...

    I think the international forums should stay as they are. So should fan fic and art. The art one isn't always related to B5, while fanfic almost always is.

    B5MG needs that number because the programs are so different in how they do things, and yet equally popular, so they need separate forums to help people in different programs.

    But even the non progam fourms are catagoized. Besides, he said it never works. I proved him wrong.

    you think...as no1 goes there i don´t go there...and many others...like no1 goes there...i don´t go there, and at the end...NO1 GOES THERE.

    i e-mailed many b5 sites in spanish but no1 ....e-mailed me!, and really few are updated,.....loosing possible visitors,....you think...i read and speak english well....like every 1....BAD...many people knows but not as much as u think.

    And another problem...when the different channels air the shows (general not only b5/crusade) really few air ANY...link to internet and web sites...loosing an amazing universe ...i know the b5 mostly in season 4 and 5 by internet as i don´t have digital channels (and only some months ago they aired season 4), so i saw only some chapters and in video tape (no other way [img]http://216.15.145.59/mainforums/frown.gif[/img] ).

    And as no1 goes there,...the storymakers and in general the film industry,...makes the movies mostly for english/american market, loosing good ideas of other countries, this problem is higher in...sci-fi.

    And...the english/american...use mostly the same kind of stories, ways, and many possible...fans,saw other kind of movies, shows for the USA-ALways good guys, kind of view of most if not all of the sci-fi shows/movies.

    the main way to close that problem,....every show must air a 20secs or 10 secs, "page" with internet links (some only), to the official site and a webring.
