A cool toy.... (sort of B5 related)

samuelksamuelk The Unstoppable Mr. 'K'
The Intelplay(tm) QX3 Computer Microscope (USB)...

I love toys...especially digital toys.

This was captured at the 10x magnification:

The scope can magnify 10x, 60x or 200x...

I love it.

Sam, you have excellent taste in toys.

    Little, expensive gizmos always rock
I almost purchased one of those because It looked so nifty. I mean, it wasn't too expensive ($99) compared to the other things I had purchased that day, but I was flat broke from the spending spree. Perhaps I'll pick it up again. I also need to get a webcam. I'm hoping to make a PileCam (A camera monitoring the cyberpile work area) once I get the place online, but that's for later, and once I get a job

And only you, Sam, could so stylishly brag about your collection of watches in such a subtle manner

I've always wanted one of those, but I can't find them in this country. I wouldn't mind a webcam either.

I have one of those QX3 Microscopes from Intel...

I bought it back in 1999 when I had cash working at Foundation...

I use it every now and then, mostly a toy though, and I didn't buy it for the kiddies either, even though that's what Intel was marketing it for...

What does the surface of a CD look like? Is it powerful enough to see the data?

200x isn't enough to see the pits on a CD...so it just looks normal.

Put a few magifying glasses over the lens and see what happens. Once you can make our the surface of a CD, move on to the DVD!
  • samuelksamuelk The Unstoppable Mr. 'K'
Unfortunately, that would screw up the focal length of the lenses...lol
  • BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
We have microscopes in the materials lab at uni powerful enough to easily make out the pits on CDs. They are so cool. They're used for looking at the grains in metals.
