A good, NEW platformer?

Yup, strange but true.

I'm a diehard fan of the old platformer genre, and games like Commander Keen, Alien Carnage and even (gasp!) Secret Agent really struck me back in the day.

Anyways, my point is that I landed my sticky lil' paws on the new Duke Nukem -game, Manhattan Project and even though it's made by a separate group and it's not an "official" Duke, I have to recommend it to anyone who has ever liked platformers before.

To those of you who know the genre a little bit better, I guess it's enough if I say that the whole basic idea of the game is straight from Halloween Harry / Alien Carnage all the way from jetpacks to saving the babes. The engine the game works on, however, is pretty much the same as in the two Pandemonium -games 4-5 years back.

Really, I didn't expect much since the last decent -new- platformer was Jazz Jackrabbit 2 years ago, but after the first 4 levels, I found myself having a bit too much fun with the game I guess... some of the stuff in the game is just so stupid that I'm a bit afraid of the fact that I laughed at 'em... time for a head-check?

Anyways, I don't know what strikes me more; The overall rampant stupidity and cock-driven macho-bullshit attitude of the whole Rambo-scene or the sarcastic little backgrounds in the game...

It even shoved Deus Ex off from my 'to do -list' temporarily, as the new D isn't the longest of games.

I don't know how much they're charging for it in the US, but here in Finland it's around 28e, which is more or less 24-25 bucks. A new Serious Sam, so to speak. But for a budget game, it's quite a piece of work.

Just a lil' notification to all you people out there, jewels like these usually don't last very long in the shelves so go grab one while you can...

And one of the things that one should mention about this game is the 3d -engine, which means rather easy modding. Conversions of the old classics, perhaps?

Right, I'm off to bed, have to go back to the GI-Joe'ing tomorrow.

Babes, bullet and bombs. Damn I love this game.

This is one of the best games I have played for a long time. It brings back memories from the good old times.

And it was worth it's money. It felt that it was longer than ST Voy: Elite Force. And with Jon St. John as Duke Nukem. *whew* It was a blast!

I might try it out then. When I get some money spare.

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 rocked, by the way.

Okey, back again. Army's a drag. But anyways, really a good game if you like platformers. I'm not so far in the game, actually. I've played the first 7-8 levels through out of all the 24. That's mainly because I have the tendency of trying to find evey nuke in every level. Takes a bit longer. I'm in the subway levels right now, very funny. Few references to TV-shows and games have come along, like "Who Wants To Be A Tranny" -tv show ad and the entering comment on the first subway level.

A good purchase if you can spare the chips, Biggles. I'm getting a bit short-stacked myself, 3.6e a day doesn't get you very far...

I know what you mean. Unfortunately, I have other things I need to buy first as well.
