Firefly: Opinions?

FreejackFreejack Jake the Not-so-Wise
Any thoughts on Firefly?

I think the collision of tech with the dirtiness of the old west is cool. It makes for some interesting stories and keeps technobabble to a minimum.

I also liked the variety in the crew and some of the story arcs it set up. It will be interesting to see if it pans out (and if a major network can keep a sci-fi show going).

I liked it..you can compare it a little with Andromeda/Farscape, in a way that it is one ship, one crew, which is hunted in a way (maybe not Andromeda so much but)

I loved the Old West style.

And the turbine. Definitely the turbine.

Liked it, Hope the Captain pans out a little better.

Story line could run out well need a little

    more on the background though.

Really like the blending of semi old west and Enterprise.

Would be nice if they would have included a few other races.

Other than that it seems well written and will continue to watch unless it gets boring or reruned to death.

I read in the paper that this isn't the pilot. Fox felt the pilot didn't have enough action so they shot a new one (the orig pilot was 2 houres long)

I heard that the original pilot was much darker, which would have appealed to me. The network wanted it to be lightened up.

As it stands, I was "underwhelmed". IMHO the show only captured the trappings of the (romanticized) old west, but not the spirit, and I wasn’t moved by the performances. I agree that that concept of a sci-fi western is cool, but I think this pilot missed the boat by trying to fuse the two, rather than going for the dramatic possibilities of colliding the two genres.

    Much prefer John Doe.

I would really like to see the pilot too. It may change the feel of the show though. It seems to me Fox wanted more of a 50s style western (upbeat) and the creater, Joss Wheadon, was wanting something more alone the lines of a Clint Eastwood film (gritty).

Wheadon specificly said they are going to avoid useing lots of aliens. Think of it as an Asimov view of the galaxy (His foundation series specificly mentions that humans were a freak of nature and there is no other intellegent life).
