That parts very simple. It directly deals with this line:

Product:
[] 1.5 Million USA Business Fax Numbers $49 USD

Basically, they don't have your fax number. Faxing them won't remove you from the e-mail list. Instead it will add you to their fax list.

I not 100% sure but isn't there a law against stuff like that?

If there is why don't they enforce it?

If not there should be.

Try putting their e-mail address on someone elses spam list.

• That's great, I love getting spam! The more spam the better.

Frankly, I'd love to put these people in chains 'in town square' and watch how quickly people turn to lawlessness. I'd kick the [deleted for the children] of them in a heart-beat.

So far, unsubscribing has paid off... took 3 days of serious replies to unsubscribe sites and emails to get it from 250 a day to 11...

Now I sit and wait for the backlash that I hear I will get in a few weeks...

I've been getting more e-mail spam lately too. It wasn't a problem before for me, but it's been increasing lately. And most of it is that "Viagra" and "Earn 500 bucks a day" crap.

What I do to people that send me crap like that (which happens very rarely now) is I add them to the wierdest damned e-mail lists there are. PETA, every religious organization I can find, gay porn, beastiality lists, etc. Basically, I sign em up on the most anal retentive fanatics on the net. 99% of the time, it works. One time the idiot actually sent me another e-mail complaining about it, and sent one to my provider. (My provider and I are good buddies, and of course I told him about the whole thing. He just laughed.) I then contacted HIS provider and had him shut down in violation of the DMCA! That's not the best idea. Now they know your email address is a valid one. Of course, email addresses of mine from the late 80s that haven't been valid in over ten years are still on some of those !@*(&#*@&#'s "millions of email addresses" CDs.

_never_ reply to a spammer unless you don't mind that email address seeing an increased spam load. Of course, if it's a shell account or on a Linux box you run, you could always use Procmail as a whitelist setup and only allow people you know to email you, with everything else getting sent to /dev/null and bounced with an EXITCODE=67 (a "no such user" error).

Not in the USA, it isn't. I agree. Data trading or harvesting without the owner's specific permission for that specific harvester's use only should be illegal.
Try putting their e-mail address on someone elses spam list.
I hope you're kidding and not advocating something that scummy. If it's bad for them to do and should be illegal, then it would be bad for you to do, too.
•
Originally posted by Argone:

I think Canter and Siegel, the green card spamming lawyers, were the first big spammers. To the best of my knowledge, they first spammed in April of 1994. Before that, spamming was rare and small-time.

These days, my spam load has increased an order of magnitude beyond what it was last year.
•
Originally posted by Rogue Trader:

Because that would be as sociopathic as the original spammers. If I (or the vast majority of antispammers and sysadmins) caught you doing that, we'd make sure you lost your accounts and access, too. Rightfully so. One does not fight abuse with abuse, especially when spam is what I can see killing email as a useful communications medium. As it is, it's been estimated that spam accounts for over 30% of all email traffic, and that figure is increasing day by day.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
I heard that spam and ad banners/pop-ups account for roughly 50-75% of internet traffic.

I also heard that 87% of statistics cited in everday conversation is wrong :-)

Hopefully, people who spam spammers would be tossed out on their posteriors just like the spammers. There are more amusing ways to deal with them. If I didn't have to keep my typing to a minimum due to CTS and a possible 2nd cortisone shot in five days, I'd explain that a bit. Let's just say this was the fun I had, embarassing them:
