BAGHDAD, Iraq, Oct. 20 — The Iraqi government announced an amnesty Sunday for all Iraqi prisoners as a thank-you to the nation for reelecting President Saddam Hussein with 100 percent of the vote.

100% of the vote just means that nobody really had a choice. Or, put another way, one choice is no choice.

Releasing all of those prisoners seems like a tremendously bad idea to me....

You can't lose an election when your name is the only one on the ballot.

  • As the Royal Canadian Air-Farce put it, the choices in the Iraqi election were:

    1. I vote for Saddam
    2. I don't want to live

Not what I heard. Murderers were released. But they had to pay restitution within a month or they'd be thrown back in jail.

Now how are they going to catch them in a month?
