RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
This is a quick pic I made. It's just to test the exhaust-effects for my Viper.
It's worked out quite well i think ;)

    Thanks :D

You know, it's a very simple image... The Engine flares are just a Volume Light and an atmospherics (combustion) effect, the ships all move at the same speed in the same direction with a static camera, and the starfield is a total seperate element:
2 cylinders, mapped with a noise map with high (or low?) levels so that it looks like stars, and the cylinders have different diameters, so that it kinda gives a 3D starfield effect... And the Camera is animated with a diagonal move (forward and upwards) while the target just moves forward...
    Simple, huh? ;)

the pic actually evolved from this pic I made to test my cockpit (though without pilot and cockpitlights). I decided the engine flames needed some work, deleted all but the center ships and put a camera behind it and worked on the flames. I liked the angle so much that i added the additional ships and rendered it out.

This is a complete nit, but would exhaust from a conic nozzle be shaped that way, ending in a point, or would they continue to open out?

I thought it was the atmosphere that caused rocket exhaust to form the point.

I realize it doesn't look as cool, but it might be an interesting contrast to your typical space shot.

Still, cool pictures. More than I'll ever do. ;)
