"Get your twangers out"

When I was a child, I loved a BBC children's TV programme called "Rainbow", which aired from the late 70s through to the mid 1980s. (I caught the repeats.)

However, it recently came to my attention that there was a "banned" episode, which the crew filmed for a joke, but for reasons you will see, was not aired. After finding it, I nearly died of laughter.

Here is the link to part of the episode:

I seem to recall stumbling across that near the end of last year. It was... shocking, to say the least, given I used to watch that programme all the time when I was younger (I'm old enough that it wasn't repeats).

Indeed, I have just found the subsequent conversation in my IRC logs...

It was filmed for a joke, it was never banned because it was never intended to air.

Think of it as a "christmas special" that shows used to make to give out amongst the studio execs and crew.

No doubt there's a filthy, inuendo filled, version of your childhood favorite floating about somewhere. Bonus points to anyone who can remember where this rainbow one was first revealed to the world (don't think prime cuts of meat, stick to channel 4).

    I'm sorry?
  • *Sigh*

I can't remember what TV show it was on, but the "Gay Daleks" where a couple of guys who went around in (pretty realistic) Dalek suits which shot white goo from the blasters. They'd shout "EXSPERMINATE!" whilst doing so.

Probably the most un-funny thing EVAR shown on Channel 4.

There was Flesh Gordon...but I don't remember for sure if that was it or not...
  • Sounds like a porn film adaptation. Much in the same vein as "Shaving Ryan's Privates".

Slightly porn, but mostly camp. It's one of those gems of the 70's that survived to the modern era completely and totally intact and yet stays just as good as ever.
