thanks * , I know the geocities direct link thing, but like Jacks pointed out... you simply click the link... let it load the intercept page for a nanosecond or seven, stop it loading, click in the address field and hit return... no biggie once you know the trick.. no ads, no crap, no problems...

tell the poluka at polykarbon, where-ever that is, that he's a photocopy of the original..

Can someone post one of thier renders of this stuff applied so * knows what its for ?

cough/A#/cough/Reaper/cough... come to think of it... go back through this thread mate... I think you'll find a link to "furiesduty" or something along those lines...

then all should becone clear...

Jack...

I'm glad it meets your approval... enjoy..

Well what i was talking about, is that when you upload the pictures to one of the servers that prohibit direct linking, you simply rename the file with a txt extention. geocities, homestead, and tripod dont block direct linking of text files. Not to mention a jpg with a txt extention can still be viewed as a jpg (assuming you dont use netscape). No need to copy or paste or stop and do any messy stuff, it just shows up right on que, here ill show you.

see nice and purdy, as long as you know the html or the ezcode http://newman_66.tripod.com/android.txt

ok, well ill just use links if i want to send an img

* mate... thanks once again and yeah its all possible... but

some time ago we all ( Firstones ) decided to not post any piccies to come up in the actual thread... once you get four or five pics... suddenly us poor schmucks with 56K modems are dying of old age waiting for the threads to load...

so yeah... it can be done... but it isnt.

so feel free to post links...

but no in-thread images... cheers...

Nice image by the way...

ya know what really torques me off.... those sodding little intake depressions in the wingart space.... wish they were easily textured so they could be used for wingart space.... sigh... I guess it's a pain in the arse trying to match edges etc...

You can also link to a .html file. Simply create a generic HTML file, and add images to it.

I suppose the part of the graphic that overlaps the intakes (indents, or whatever they are) could be separate textures that cover just the bottom of the intakes. You'd just have to figure out specifically which part of the overall graphic overlapped, cut it out of the overall graphic, and make it a texture map for just recessed area. Yes?

Or am I misunderstanding?
• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
Merge the surfaces. If they are one surface then the texture will go over both of them correctly. Of course then you lose any particular details that were on the intakes.

yeah thats what I meant Randy/fellas... cutting and pasting the wing art into basically three textures was what had in mind... but the trouble with that is making sure the art 'folds' over and lines up properly... edge to edge... if the surface can be merged as Biggles suggested... problem solved... and lets face it there is bugger all on the intake surfaces anyways...

speaking of which.... WTF are they for ?

Has there been any canon on just what they do ? The Fury not being at atmospheric fighter cuts out air or gas intake on a large scale so what ? sensors ?

(and of course we all know they are just there to break up the surface a bit aesthetically... but given a chance... I'd "oops" them off..

One other thing.... and this is potentially a big ask...

I'd like to do a complete reskin of a Fury...

I'd like to paint up my personal Fury as a barnstormer... a complete spray job all over... perhaps like a Fury precision flying teams colours

the next generation of the Roulettes, Blue Angels etc etc...

I'm quite happy to build the textures up in Photoshop.... I'd need all the 'paper cutouts ' of the textures to follow.. other than that I basically just need someone to paste it all onto a fury and render for me...

any takers ?

Please.... crawl grovel scrape... who knows I might do the same for the guy who helps me out...
• RandyRandy Master Storyteller
Aren't there some paint programs and Lightwave plugins that allow you to paint right onto a 3D model that can be moved around in X,Y,Z fashion, with all the regular high-end d-paint appliances?

If so, you could stencil it, spray paint it, end up with kewl flames or rippling flags and pinstripes, over a candy apple red paint job that is a mile deep under a zillion gallons of clear-coat, chrome-tipped exhaust ports, and tinted windows. You could give the pilot a tuck-and-roll cockpit with floating fuzzy dice hanging from the rearview monitor.
• JackNJackN <font color=#99FF99>Lightwave Alien</font>
The only prorgams I've seen for real time 3D model painting have been for 3DS Max models and surfaces. This is also used for character models more than hard surface models.

There was a program called DeePaint that was supposed to have an upgrade module to handle Lightwave objects, but that was pre 6.x/7.x Lightwave.

In any case, the typical Lightwave Star Fury models out there made by the fans are similar to the original show model in how they are put together.

It is a mixture of cubic mapping for simple tiled textures (you know... the trademark B5 panels texture) and planar mapping with exact fit textures that were made by projections of the object from the axis of the normals of the surface in question.

Therefor the object doesn't have a single surface that can be painted in real time, so the app that would do handle the painting would have to be modifying several textures at once, and would not cover the cubic mappings in any case.

A simple fix for the insets you guys are talking about is to leave the geometry alone, and simply save out the planar wing surface, and then load in that surface into the surface for the insets. This will cause inset surface to take on the texture mapping of the other surface with the same dimensions etc.

The end result is that after you make this change, when you look down inside the insets, you'll see the rest of the wing texture down inside.

• shadow boxershadow boxer The Finger Painter & Master Ranter
heh... leave it to the experts...

anyways... I did some 'painting' for max... dropping art as bitmaps into Maxes surfaces, thats where I got my '3D' from... oh well.

I dont care as long as it fixes the holes in the wingart.

yeah Randy... then I'll fly at inch off the tar down on the boulevard, cruisin for chickas
but how do I get the convertible top down ? And I wonder if there is enough room in the cockpit for a whoopass stereo, gotta have bass man, gotta have bass....
• RandyRandy Master Storyteller
I've seen the inside of those cockpits close up - plenty of places to mount speakers - large speakers. And since you'll be packing your own reactor I think there will be plenty of power available to blast the windows out of the cockpit with bone jarring bass thumps.

What I'm wondering is if there's enough room to take on of those find, upstanding ladies from the boulevard for a ride.

I don’t know about a convertible top, but how many guys will be cruising the drag upside-down?

Thanks, man. I knew I saw something about this somewhere. Maybe in Game Developers Magazine or something. Very cool, useful.
• JackNJackN <font color=#99FF99>Lightwave Alien</font>
Yeah! Same here Marc... Thanks!

I noticed that Lightwave had to begin supporting UV before it was made though eh!

heh heh...

Definately a LW 6.x or greater product by the looks of it.
• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
You know what I found out yesterday? Lightwave's UV's are reversed along the V axis compared with DirectX!
Or at least mine are. All my textures kept coming out backwards when I plugged the models into my engine.

• That's because DirectX's are "backwards"...

This reminds me of the whole left-hand coordinate thing... "So, should we use right-hand coordinates like the graphics, simulation, and engineering communities? Nah. We're smarter than everyone else. We'll make ours left-handed..."

(back to textures) The way we handle it at work is to do everything in the "normal" world and then reverse the image for DX. It's not nice, but it works.

• JackNJackN <font color=#99FF99>Lightwave Alien</font>
You can also create a copy of the model in question and set a negative value for the axis that needs to be flipped...

For example:

If your X axis in a texture is set to 15mm, just change it to -15mm and lightwave will reverse the drawing direction on that axis.

• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
I hate to say it, John, but Lightwave is left handed, same as DirectX.

As for flipping the UV coords, I did just that. My object converter flips the V axis when it reads the coordinates from the LWO file:
Vertices[Index].v = -TempFloat;
