OSE Project (new Babylon 5 game!) needs team members!

Well, my name is Emi, I'm part of OpenSpace Softworks (OSS) Team.
We are developing a new game engine, named OpenSpace Engine (OSE), to be use on a new Tactical Space Combat Simulator / Capital Ship Command Simulator of Baylon 5.

OSE is based on the:
· OGRE as graphical engine;
· Bullet as physics engine;
· Lua and LuaBind as scripting engine.

Our goals
Is to make a freeware game base on Joe Michael Straczynski's serie, Babylon 5.
A fan built Babylon 5 game open to fans from all communities,
A modern game taking inspiration from B5 mod/games,
An up-to-date graphical experience/gameplay which will leave fans truly amazed! :), duplicating the quality of the CGI from the show on OSE,
An easy to modify platform which will remain stable with many modifications installed,
Gameplay with Realistic physics model,
Telling an interesting drama/suspense story with B5's spirit.

4). We need in grammar and speech stage director (native english speaker).

*warning criticism may not be constructive
  • StingrayStingray Elite Ranger

Man my brother and I were talking about this last night.

If you were using Panda3D or Python I could help, sadly I know too little C++ :(

Web Design is something I might be able to assist with, but my development schedule is pretty packed at the moment...if I can get one more site off my plate I might could assist you guys with that. :)

Edit: Yes, I said might could. No, it was not an accident. I live in the south, I'm allowed to poke fun at the grammar of the area I live in. ;)
  • What sort of game? Shooter? Racing? Tube Lift Simulation?
  • croxiscroxis I am the walrus
    Good luck.

    One request.

Small, frequent releases, even if it just simple prototypes :D
  • BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
Tube Lift Simulation?
That would be so awesome. You could trap G'kar and Londo together! Drop a lift 10 stories in a second! Always route the lift Talia rides to wherever Garibaldi is!
  • It would be certainly interesting to see a "different" game in B5 universe, as we've seen so many space sims.

Sadly, I cannot help you as I need to push the humanity forward, but I wish you good luck!
  • SanfamSanfam I like clocks.

I can't help but reinforce this point. Regular releases--even if they are basically buggy tech demos--serve two purposes. First, they keep people interested. Showing progress of any sort is miles beyond what most developers do. It's effectively free press. This also allows people to see the regular improvements made and is basically free marketing. Second, it's essentially free bug-testing, which saves you post-release hassle by having multiple users chime in on the state of the project.

Just remember, a program is never "done." If you wait until you are "done" you will never have a release and all the work you have put in would of been for naught. Take a look at the B5 mod for X3. I've been waiting to play something, anything, for years now. As of right now all the work they have put in is worthless.

Small infrequent releases will improve your project success. Take a look at all successful open source or community projects, and the frequency of those that survived and thrived and those which died.

Frequent releases also give you a LOT of momentum, at least in my experience working on CityMania
  •
Capital Ship Command Simulator
This is what I've been waiting 12 years for.

I agree with those who say you should provide development snapshots regularly for people to play with. The HW2 B5 mod is developed using a public SVN on sourceforge so anyone can play with it as much as they like. Its worked very well for us, especially as non-dev team members have occasinoally provided patches which have been helpful. I would strongly recommend an open development model.
  • Things are movieng in the backgorung ;)
Update Dev Team list on the main post.

    We almost finish the website.
