entire northwest is starting to see an upswing (slightly) of activity, its a fun time here, wondering which mountain is going to take out which communities ;) [/B][/QUOTE]

We've been having Earthquakes up here in Maine for the past couple months, the biggest being a 4.2, and a 3.8. with numerous aftershocks in the 1.8-2.5 range.

not huge quakes, but we usually dont get them here, and because of our bedrock, they feel more powerful than they would in an earthquake prone area like cali.

As for that island popping up out of the sea, while it is indeed an exciting thing to see, i wouldnt buy real estate there..

On September 22, 2006 a series of earthquakes shook the Mt. Desert Island area of Maine. The largest quake on the 22nd was magnutide 3.4. In the subsequent days and weeks there were a number of additional earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 1.0 to 2.5. On the evening of October 2nd a magnitude 4.2 earthquake occurred. This sequence of earthquakes continues on to the present (Nov. 3, 2006).

Any clue as to what is causing them? As far as I recall, there isn't a tectonic boundary near there.

They are pretty much in the dark, they are speculating the possible formatio of a new fault offshore.

but they admit that's pure guesswork.

Theoretically, Dax would be doing some of the driving. So I could be making an intricate satire of her habits.

I suppose i dislike it, because i grew up with what came before The Cat, and i dislike BayFerries handling of it, since they took over, they decommissioned the previous ship, which was basically a cruiseship (it's since been re-christiened and put in service by Euroferries) they have cut back service, diverting the Cat to portland 3 days a week (4 days a week in 2007). the Bar Harbor <> NS trip has been working and working well for what, 30 years, 40 years? and now they cut it back to go from portland?

And the Old ship, the MV Bluenose, was a blast to take across, sure it was slower, a 6 hour trip, but you got a mini-cruise out of it, you could get cabins, or hang out in the Casino, or go to one of the restaraunts. and have a nice cruise experience in 6 hours (12 hours if you took the return trip) And for the $50 that it cost... it was well worth it.

I know, the Cat is "Progress" but bleh, and anyway, it looks like a Rat, not a Cat.

haha yeah it does look like a rat.
Did you hear the rumour that they are trying to get a ferry service from Halifax to Boston? Now that would be awesome!
  • Entil'ZhaEntil'Zha I see famous people
I"ve been saying for years that they should buy a 2nd cat, and do service from NS, to Bar Harbor, to boston to New York.

i think a lot of people would come up here if they could put their car on The Rat.
